HPN CALL SHEET
March 18th, 2020
Prayers for the Entertainment Industry

Dear HPN members,

In Psalm 51, David cries, “you have broken me–now let me rejoice.” In this time of COVID-19, it may feel as though Hollywood and our world are breaking. Yet we followers of Jesus remember to fix our eyes on Him and rejoice. This, too, is the day that the Lord has made.

We want to pray for all those we know suffering from the coronavirus and all of its impacts. We also ask you to pray for the entertainment professionals who are impacted by this, physically, emotionally, and professionally. Our friend Shawn Bolz wrote this powerful ebook to help Christians respond faithfully in this time. We hope that as you will feel encouraged as you read through this short, wise guide on Standing in Faith Against Coronavirus.

Thank you for praying with us this week, and we hope you’ll join us for our first weekly prayer call Friday at 12:00pm - 1:00pm PST!  It’s a great time to get on the line with Christian professionals and pray together! Details are below.

REQUESTS

an empty street in Hollywood

Coronavirus / COVID-19

Let’s pray for Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, Kristofer Hivju, and the other cast, crew, and industry professionals who have tested positive for COVID-19. Let’s pray God’s healing over their bodies and His encouragement over their lives in this time. Additionally, let's pray for all of the filmmakers who have had to cancel shoots, screenings, and travel, as these cancellations have seriously hurt filmmakers’ budgets, projects, and careers. We pray that God would meet these filmmakers in their disappointment, and that He would use this opportunity to draw them closer to Himself.

Steve Harvey

Let’s take a moment to pray for all of the exceptionally talented artists in our country who are trying to break into our industry and who are so discouraged that they are about to give up. Pray that God leads them into exactly what His plan is for them – as they are questioning their steps, He is planning their course! In one example of God’s faithfulness to those trying to break in, Steve Harvey tells his inspiring story about living in his car, being ready to give up, when God provides him the job he needs at just the right moment.

YouTube Stars

YouTube stars and Youtube channels have an incredible global influence. The top five YouTube channels have nearly 250 billion views, and the combined subscribers of the top 25 YouTube stars are close to one billion. HPN member Michael encourages us to pray for YouTube stars, that they would use their platforms and influence for good.

UPDATE

Alex Trebek

Keep praying for Alex Trebek who has passed the one-year mark of surviving stage four pancreatic cancer. He is amazing in how open and vulnerable he is with his battle. Praise God that Alex continues to host Jeopardy and stay positive. Let’s keep praying for him and for God’s loving, healing touch on his life.

PRAISES

March 8th was International Women’s Day! We want to honor and pray for the women in Hollywood and in the global entertainment industry. Women have historically had a difficult time in film, TV, music, news and video games and they continue to struggle for equal treatment, pay and opportunities. Let’s celebrate women in entertainment this week as we pray through the requests.

Yifei Liu at Mulan premiere

Mulan

Praise God that the Mulan premiere gave actress Yifei Liu (who plays Mulan) the chance to talk about being “loyal, brave, true.” Let’s celebrate that this film premiered as scheduled, had a female director, and promoted “compassion,” “family,” and “fighting for the disenfranchised.” Praise God for this film, and let’s continue to pray that Disney would use its resources to make films that include glimpses of truth.

INSIGHT Program

We want to praise God for what he’s doing through women in Hollywood. Women in Film, L.A. chose 18 participants for their 2020 INSIGHT Program, which addresses the urgent challenges that female professionals face in the entertainment industry, as well as the underrepresentation of women of color. Let’s pray for these 18 fellows to have God’s heart in all they do.

Made In Her Image

Praise God for Made In Her Image, a nonprofit that hosts workshops to teach young women, especially young women of color, how to make films. The nonprofit, which HPN staff member Kaelyn is a part of, is gaining momentum as it educates and empowers the next generation of female filmmakers.

Thank you so much for praying with us and praising God with us this week, especially during this unique time in history. Let us band together, serve one another, pray for each other and love the people around us with a practical, heart-melting love. Be empowered to offer encouragement and hope to people at this time: Each one of you can change the world!

With love and thanks,
Karen, Kaelyn, Virginia, Kim, and Caleb

DEVOTIONAL:
Truth: A Hollywood Prayer Network Devotional: Doubt

Truth is a controversial issue in today’s world. What is truth? How do we stand firm in truth and yet not judge or offend people? This week we’re focusing on God’s absolute truth and how we can incorporate it into our everyday lives. And His truth will set us free!
