Regaining Hope in H.I.S.D. Schools |
Starting in January 2018 through March 2018, BTPBTH is implementing its program to H.I.S.D. schools including: Las Americas Newcomers School, Sugar Grove Academy, Westside High School, Liberty High School, Burbank Middle School, Marshall Middle School, Paul Revere Middle School, Sutton Elementary, and Emerson Elementary. BTPBTH's team of coordinators, facilitators, educators, and volunteers are administering the program 1-2 times a week for 5-8 weeks.
Regaining Hope being one of the core goals of our BPBTH program, we decided to acknowledge the tragic aftermath of Hurricane Harvey by reinforcing our task force to respond to the needs of the schools, students and teachers that had been impacted directly or indirectly by the Hurricane.
*BTPBTH is a social & emotional enrichment and healing arts program that engages a large number of children in at-risk environments.

The BTPBTH team returns to Burkina Faso |
Be the Peace- Be the Hope first went to Burkina Faso, West Africa in 2016 to implement its social & emotional healing arts workshops to two refugee camps there -Mentao and Goudebou.
In December 2017, the BTPBTH team returned to Burkina Faso as a follow up and to spread more Hope. Cynthia Ouedraogo from our team implemented our Be the Peace - Be the Hope workshops in several orphanages and schools, delivered several Ipads generously donated by Xavier and Susan Balourdet and brought the children messages of Hope from students in Houston to inspire them through thoughtful words and uplifting drawings.

Once Upon a Hope
Poetry for Peace
The Texan-French Alliance for the Arts (TFAA) and French Education Greater Houston (EFGH) decided to join forces to create an exchange of poetry between students from Houston and several schools in Burkina Faso (including the students from the refugee camps we works with in 2016.) Their poetry will be featured in Once Upon A Hope: Poetry for Peace a book, which is printed in both French and English. The book will be debuted as part of the French Culture's Festival on March 24, 2018.
The goal of the project was to continue cultivating an exchange and a bond between the children of the two countries through French and English language while sensitizing the children of Houston to the situation of the children who found refuge in Burkina Faso. In doing so, we encouraged them to keep developing hope, and to use their creativity so that they continue being part of the Be the Peace - Be the Hope exchange and supporting each other.
Join us for the debut of Once Upon A Hope
When: March 24, 2018 from 10:15 a.m. to noon.
There will be a reading starting at 11:15 a.m.

2018 FRENCH CULTURES FESTIVAL
Each year in March, the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston organizes the French Cultures Festival (FCF) in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. A celebration of the diversity of " francophonie", it brings together people who not only speak French, but also feel, in one way or another, connected to France and the Francophone community.
One of the major objectives of the French Cultures Festival is to create awareness of the diversity of contemporary French culture and to stimulate exchanges with the public.
The FCF gathers many institutional partners from museums, universities, schools, diplomatic representations, and many other organizations. Last year, over 40 cultural and educational events were showcased during the Festival in the three states covered by the Cultural Service.
