Third Sunday of Easter

Acts 9:1-19

Who are you, Lord?

These are the words uttered by the baffled Saul, after he is stricken blind on the road to Damascus. I don’t know about you, but this is one of my favorite stories in all of scripture. I especially love the Flannery O’Connor quote that the story always brings to mind: “I reckon the Lord knew that the only way to make a Christian out of that one was to knock him off his horse.”

I reckon we all need to get knocked off our horses sometimes…

Maybe you’ve never had a dramatic conversion experience like Saul… you know, the whole ‘blinded by the Holy Spirit and literally knocked to the ground’ situation. But I’m sure we’ve all had moments of recognizing the living Christ in our midst. Or maybe, of failing to recognize him. That’s what we’re going to talk about on Sunday. Who are you, Lord? How do we see Jesus? How do we know when we’ve witnessed the power of the risen Christ?

As you might expect, there’s no easy answer. And there’s certainly no ONE answer. We continue our sermon series “Head Full of Doubt,” ready to hold space for our questions, and ready to be surprised by where that faithful questioning might lead us. Come Sunday ready for something a little different in worship. We may not be stricken blind… but we can always find some new ways of seeing, if we’re willing to look.

Peace,

Joys & Concerns
We ask God's blessing and comfort for those struggling with health issues and life's other difficulties. Please keep Jeff Waller in your prayers as he recovers from surgery.

Thank You!
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Tom Russell. Tom recently made a gift of $10,000 to the SACC Legacy Fund in honor of his wife Pat, who passed away in February. Pat was a faithful member and volunteer at Saint Andrew for 15 years. This gift is a wonderful way to honor her memory, and her legacy of service and generosity.
The Legacy Fund is Saint Andrew’s permanent endowment fund, maintained through planned gifts and donations from church members and friends. These investments will continue to support our mission for years to come, a gift that truly keeps on giving. Thank you, Tom and the rest of the Russell family!

U.S. refugee resettlements so far this fiscal year are VERY LOW.  Sharon Stanley-Rea from the Disciples Home Ministry shared in a recent newsletter:  “As we approach the "half year" for refugee resettlement in this fiscal year on March 31st...the U.S. has resettled less than 10,000 refugees (not even 20%) of our national 45,000 admissions goal for fiscal year 2018!  Already, this 45,000 annual goal is the LOWEST in our nation's resettlement history, at a time when there are over 22 million refugees worldwide.”
