Remembering David Wilkerson--Preparing for Africa
The National Day of Prayer, celebration was powerful as thousands gathered at Bethel Temple in Hampton & Rock Church in Virginia Beach to join millions across America to intercede for our nation. Starting with prayers for God's mercy. It was a great night of ministry at the Tidewater gathering --intercession worship, praise-warfare, people confessed Jesus for the first time, others healed, set free —lives changed -- great night.

As we prepare for the upcoming "LEAD" conference of the AG Potomac Ministry Network, and AFRICA ARISE, a Holy Convocation for all of the TC centers across Africa, we want to remember anniversary of the passing of the pioneer and apostle of the Teen Challenge work, David Wilkerson.

We appreciate and need your prayers and partnership that are keeping us at the front lines 8 years later. This will be a spring of blessings to launch a summer of miracles. Following the Africa LTI we head to major outreaches with MISSION SOS and Teen Challenge Africa in Morogoro and Arusha Tanzania. We have an international team of TC staff and leaders joining over 250 missionaries in each city with International Evangelist Johannes Amritzer and MISSION SOS.

Rev. David Wilkerson, founder of Teen Challenge New York City & author of the best-selling book, "The Cross and the Switchblade," lost his life in a head on collision in Tyler, Texas. He was 79. and is survived by his wife, four children and 11 grandchildren.

On April 27, 2011, the obituary read, "He died tragically in a car crash near Tyler Texas at 79.

I prefer to think of him enjoying a Wednesday afternoon drive with his lifetime sweetheart, Gwyn When the vehicle swerved left he stepped from this earth into the presence of the father to the words of his Savior following a life well-lived, "well done thou good and faithful servant."

David Wilkerson not only pioneered teen challenge administered around the world, the author 33 books. Most famous was the cross and the switch plate. Kathy and I have been

We received the news of his death in Nairobi at the ALL AFRICA Teen Challenge meeting in Kenya. Our hearts cried out as learned that David and Gwen Wilkerson were involved in a car accident and our dear Brother Dave did not survive. Some were so discouraged they wanted to return home. God gave me a word for devotions the next morning. I preached from Acts 13 with a Challenge I knew Brother Dave would have wanted.

50th Anniversary2008: Bro Dave MINISTERING AT
For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation,
fell asleep,
and was laid among his fathers
Acts 13:36 (NASB)

As I shared that word with the Africa leaders I reminded them that David had done his work in his generation and now the baton has been handed to us.. The only question that remains, is "Will we take the mantle for our generation? David is in GLORY. He is laid among "his fathers." Now, who will win your nation?"

After prayer and a few moments of silence, Fukuoka Kapolesa stood to say,"I will take the mantle for Zambia."

Bro Dave & Bern

Ricardo Heilbron stood. I will take the mantle for South Africa.
Syd Wilson stood and said, "I will take the mantle for Liberia."
One by one leaders stood up to take their mantle . . . For Kenya, for Swaziland, for Uganda, for Ethiopia. In 2011, there were TC centers functioning effectively in 7 nations. In 2019, that number has more than tripled and we receive new invitations every month.

John 12:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

As one anointed seed fell to the ground, we know that here in Africa and around the world, a whole new generation of Teen Challenge leaders are rising up! They are prepared to take the mantle to reach this world for Jesus. May our lives and ministry honor his passing as we carry his passion for souls to addicts around the world.

EVEN ON THE DAY OF HIS DEATH HE SPOKE PROPHETICALLY: Hours before his fatal accident, Brother Dave posted on his World Challenge site. WHEN ALL MEANS FAIL

Brother Wilkerson shared:

To those going through the valley and shadow of death, hear this word: Weeping will last through some dark, awful nights—and in that darkness you will soon hear the Father whisper, “I am with you. I cannot tell you why right now, but one day it will all make sense. You will see it was all part of my plan. It was no accident. It was no failure on your part. Hold fast. Let me embrace you in your hour of pain.”

Beloved, God has never failed to act but in goodness and love. When all means fail—his love prevails. Hold fast to your faith. Stand fast in his Word. There is no other hope in this world.
One of the great blessings of my ministry has been the nuggets of wisdom that Brother Dave often shared. They had a profound impact on my life!

In 1958, God called David to New York City to intercede in a particularly brutal teen gang murder. He was thrown out of the Egyptian Kings trial and front page headlines offered only humiliation.

The article went on to say, "He was  escorted from the courtroom by court officials and no additional charges against Wilkerson are anticipated. The DA’s office was unable to be reached for comment at this time, but it is anticipated that we have heard the last from this poor misguided heart." They were so wrong!

More than the powerful evangelism and expository preaching with which we were always blessed, I will never forget his strength as he led our New York City team in Coney Island on a hot summer day, July 28, 1982. Word came that our dear friend, Keith Green along with eleven others died in the crash of their Cessna 414. He refused to allow that tragic event to stop the ministry. He and Second Chapter of Acts led us in prayer. We wept, we prayed and then Brother Dave stood up and quietly spoke

"We cannot stop. Yes, we will pray for Melody, for the kids, for the family, but tonight we will reach the lost. Satan will not have the final word today. We will make this day count!" When the Teen Challenge Choir went on stage to open that night, it was one of the most powerful anointing I have ever sensed.

Regarding ministering to the gangs, I once asked, "Were you ever afraid?"
He answered, “I wasn't afraid of getting killed, but I was afraid of making no impression on these young lives.”

In Philadelphia, as we hurried down Broad Street to get to the stage, people kept stopping him. As I was hurrying him to "minister," he reminded me,
"Bern, that's just preaching, real ministry is what happens on the way to the platform."

Probably his most profound words to me were shared at the Rehrersburg Teen Challenge Farm when he told me, "Bernie, you will meet two kinds of people in the ministry. They both have a hammers will try to crucify you, the other will try to sculpt a statue. I am not sure which is more dangerous." Bro Dave Bobby Dave, Bern
In my role as Global Evangelism Coordinator, I pray that God will anoint us to keep the fire for evangelism burning in Teen Challenge around the world.

2019 is a year of miracles.
You cannot be with us in the Syrian Refugee Camps of the Bekaa Valley, Rwanda, South Africa, Kazakhstan or Tanzania but you can still be with us in prayer, partnership and giving.
Thank you for standing with us, praying for us and as the Lord leads, partnering with your gifts.
