HPN CALL SHEET
March 4th, 2020
Prayers for the Entertainment Industry

Dear HPN members,

Happy Lent! This is the sacred 40 day period, preceding Easter, of seeking God. In this time, many Christians are devoted to fasting, abstinence, and penitence in commemoration of Christ's fasting in the wilderness. Have you decided to give up something and replace it with time spent with Jesus this Lenten season? We trust that it is a very special time for you. Let’s pray for the needs of the people in the entertainment industry and ask that they also have a desire to seek God during this time.

Intern Caleb

HPN has an awesome new spring intern from the LA Film Studies Center, Caleb. We are thankful for his hard work, servant heart, and loving spirit. You will all see the fruit of his work soon as he starts shooting videos and recording radio spots for our website and beyond!

Ben Affleck

In this recent interview with Diane Sawyer, Ben Affleck opened up about his recovery, divorce, and his experience with church. “I’d like to find some sort of sense of meaning and purpose,” he told Diane Sawyer. Praise God for Ben’s sobriety and his ability to be vulnerable and honest with himself and others. Pray that God would meet Ben in this time of healing and fulfill his need for meaning and purpose.

Tony Hale

Tony Hale

Tony Hale, who is open about his Christian Faith, was recently cast as a lead in the upcoming film The Mysterious Benedict Society. On film sets, the lead actors who are at “the top of the call sheet,” really set the tone for the entire cast and crew. We praise God for Tony’s excellence and persistence in his craft, his love for other people, and his godly impact on the set. Let’s pray that God’s Spirit fills the film set and provides opportunities for the cast and crew to experience the love of Christ.

UPDATES

#MeToo Movement

Thank you for continuing to pray for the #MeToo movement in Hollywood. The jury announced their decision last week regarding Harvey Weinstein. Although he faces jail time, many insiders question whether the culture of Hollywood has really changed for victims of sexual harassment. So we pray, “Lord, we lament injustice that cannot be made right by our own hands. Change the very fabric of Hollywood to make it physically, emotionally, and mentally healthy for everyone, so that your people can not merely survive but can thrive. Only you can change our hearts, actions, and words. Amen.”

New Streaming Platforms

The amount of streaming platforms available is almost overwhelming; we can watch hundreds of hours of new content, from five minutes to two hours or longer, any time on our TVs and phones. There is so much information coming at us that we need discernment in choosing what to watch, how much to watch, and where to watch it—all the while maintaining our obligations and personal relationships. Quibi, Snapchat, Apple TV, and Pluto TV are only a few of the new streaming platforms. Let’s ask the Lord to give us wisdom on how to wisely interact with the unlimited hours of available content.

Multi-dimensional Male Characters

Noah Centineo, one of the stars of the recent Netflix sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, opened up about portraying a much more positive male character than the stereotypical tough guy. In his own life, Noah stays mindful of his emotions and mental health, trying to be vulnerable and honor others. Let’s pray for more actors to play multi-dimensional male characters in TV shows and films. Let’s also pray for actors to model, in both their onscreen roles and in their personal relationships, healthy relationships for the young people who watch their films.

Mental Health on Film Sets

A recent survey of UK entertainment industry professionals found that those working on TV and film sets are much more likely than the general UK population to struggle with mental health issues on the job or to harm themselves. Pray that God would bring healing to those in TV and filmboth in the UK, the US, and in other parts of the worldwho experience depression, anxiety, or any mental illness. Pray also for more research to be done so that this issue can come to light and that resources can be made available to those in need. UK MENTAL HEALTH SURVEY>>

Also join us in praying that HPN can someday open a Christian counseling center in Hollywood so that we can be a part of meeting the mental health needs in our creative community.

"Here's Why Lent Still Matters"

QUOTE:
"I’m not here for your entertainment. I’m an evangelist. So my music, my films—every conversation, every room I go in—we’re here to save souls, to save people from eternal damnation. I use art to make believers."
Kanye West

VERSE:
"This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."
— Jeremiah 29:4-7

DEVOTIONAL:
A Hollywood Prayer Network Devotional: Doubt
One of the greatest plights of man is this phrase: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” We believe God completely in some circumstances and then we doubt Him a moment later by getting fearful, angry, or discouraged. This week we’re going to dig into doubt and ask the Lord to grow our faith so that we can move mountains!
