A letter from the President of the VCS Board, Jim Snyder

To all of our wonderful Valley Center Stage participants, supporters, audiences,  and well-wishers of all sorts,

Greetings!!

In these crazy, difficult, and challenging times we thought we would send out an update on VCS’s status.

First of all, thank you!  Thank you for all the positive messages, good wishes and questions. Thank you to 4Culture, the City of North Bend, T-Mobile, Microsoft, Lakeside Industries, and a number of private donations that have helped sustain us through this difficult time when we cannot open.  Their financial support has been an amazing gift to our theatre and we are very grateful.

The board continues to meet at least once a month, sometimes several times a month, via online meetings.  A number of committees continue to meet virtually.  Some committees or work parties have met in person in very small, socially distanced groups.  Please believe me when I tell you that we are planning for live theater experiences as soon as we are safely able to do so. Our contingency plans range from very limited staged readings to a full season, with any number of levels in between those two extremes.  We are actively working on next season, whatever form it may take.

The board and the building committee continue to search for a new venue and we are seriously exploring an option with a group in town. More on that later...

On behalf of the Board of Directors, our best wishes and our utmost thanks go out to everyone who is finding their way the best they can in these challenging times.

We hope to be back presenting live theater as soon as possible and look forward to seeing all of you soon.

Best,

Jim Snyder
President
VCS Board of Directors

Free Streaming Theatre and More!

Many theatres and other have made content available online during this time.  Here are some links to help you find some of the amazing resources that have been made available, for free, during these difficult times.

What's on Stage is a UK site that compiles a list of free online theatre.  It's a long list with some amazing resources, including a play in the Edinburgh International Festival.

New York's Public Television Channel WNET created the website ALL ARTS which has some amazing resources hidden away, including a 1974 production of King Lear starring James Earl Jones. This website spans all of the arts and has an an enormous amount of content.

The Kennedy Center's Digital Stage has a range of performances from including music, dance, comedy and even Mo Willems Lunch Doodles, for kids.  The short clip Drumblebee is one of my personal favorites.    You can also watch episodes of the 20 week Arts across America Series - last week's episode was about the history of Rock, beginning with it's origins in Blues.

You can also explore Native American Storytelling with amazing resources like WoLakota where you can read or listen to elders tell beautiful stories like the Lakota Origin Story.
