Anti-Racism Resources

Attend:  SURJ KC Education Core event.  Tonight, 7-8pm - On Wednesday, June 24th, SURJ Education Core, along with POC-led organizations in the area, sent letters to local superintendents and Board of Education presidents asking for concrete commitments to back up their recent equity statements released in the wake of George Floyd’s murder. The letter included 12 anti-racist demands and over 200 community signatures. In this Facebook Live, we will be addressing a few of the demands directly and giving you next steps for continuing to hold your school district accountable to anti-racist action.  - https://www.facebook.com/events/1154901754871605/

Deconstructing Whiteness with Avis Smith

This presentation will include a short video by Dr. Robin Diangelo, Ph.D., an anti-racist educator as she deconstructs whiteness and white privilege.  Avis Smith will then lead a discussion focused on how we can become less defensive and more accepting of feedback from people of color.  Avis is a member of SACC and an adjunct instructor in the School of Social Welfare at KU.

Clergy Day Off Designation

The Clergy of Saint Andrew have all been working very hard with this pandemic virtual reality.  The clergy have identified Thursday as a day to take off from basic work and calls.  The goal is to give our clergy some designated time for renewal and rest each week.  We tried to pick the day that had the least meetings and church activity based on Zoom calls and worship preparation.

This does not mean you cannot call clergy for emergency or significant pastoral concerns.  One of the ministers will be “on call” to respond to your needs if you need to reach out on a Thursday.  Just as the clergy are praying for you, you are encouraged to offer a prayer for them on Thursdays.

Summer’s treat is buying fruits and vegetables at farmers’ markets!  We have our favorites and are easily drawn to the beauties on the table.  Try buying the misshapen.  They taste just as good and are just as nutritious as those with a perfect shape but are more likely to be thrown away.  One purchase at a time, we can help reduce food waste.
