MRT Presents: Murder in the Magnolias (Friday-Sunday)
Murder in the Magnolias is a lampoon of "Southern" Plays. It is a parody of characters and plots from almost every Southern play imaginable, sort of a cross between "Gone With the Wind" and "The Addams Family." Friday-Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 3 p.m. At the McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee. Tickets are $15-18. (Continues next weekend.)

Shields, Masks & Assemblage Sculptures
This exhibit of new and retro works was inspired by nature when artist Frances Dezzany created the pieces. Dezzany is
one of 33 artists across Texas who were chosen from over 1200 to be in the Texas Biennial and show her work in Austin. (She is the only McKinney artist to earn this  distinction.) Friday, 6-9 p.m.; Saturday, 5-9 p.m. with reception; and Sunday, 2-5 p.m. At The Cove, 402 N. Tennessee.

The featured artist at LAST for October's Second Saturday will be Kevin Megison as well as works by 30 more local artists. Until 9 p.m. 105 W. Louisiana.

Local acrylic painter Andrea Holmes is featured in a solo show at Orisons Fine Art & Framing, 110 E. Louisiana, this Second Saturday. Reception and exhibit opening 7-10 p.m. Saturday; exhibit continues through Nov. 4.

Dinosaurs Live!
(Through Feb. 18) 
Encounter the 46-foot T-Rex and nine new life-size animatronic dinosaurs along the Heard Museum’s nature trails at the 12th annual Dinosaurs Live! Photo op and play area dinosaurs will be available as well. The dinosaur trail is jogging stroller friendly. Exhibit is included in museum general admission. Visit museum website for hours and rates.

Second Saturday Bird Walk (Saturday)
Monthly Bird Walks at the Heard The Heard Museum and Prairie & Timbers Audubon Society (PTAS) offer guided bird walks on the Heard Sanctuary, beginning promptly at 8 a.m. and last about 1.5 hours; optional extended time if some participants are interested. Walks are included in regular admission.These bird walks are intended to help beginning and
intermediate birders with bird spotting and identification techniques. Prairie, woodland, and wetland habitats are included. 8-9 a.m.

Fossil Tortoise Exhibit Grand Opening (Saturday)
Meet two fossil tortoises that were discovered by Jim Caddell in July of 1994 in the Northwest corner of Nebraska in a region known as the Nebraska Badlands. This program is included in general admission and free for Heard Museum members. 10-11 a.m.
Musical powerhouse singer-songwriters Maylee Thomas and Jon Christopher Davis join forces for a rousing night of music
under the stars at Wales Manor Vineyard & Winery, 4488 CR 408. The Guava Tree Food Truck will be on-hand. Tables go fast, so arrive early. Showtime is 7 p.m. $15 at the gate.
& Quinten Hope Band
(Friday) The Sanctuary Music & Events presents a showcase of musicians in the DFW area. This month's Sanctuary Live features one special national band, the Travis Larson Band, who have graced our stage before when opening for The Aristocrats, and one special local band with long standing ties to The Guitar Sanctuary, The Quinten Hope Band. Tickets range from $10-100 and are available online. Doors open at 7 p.m.; music starts at 8 p.m. 6633 Virginia in Adriatica.
Shop from more than 400 vendors in the largest and longest-running flea market in North Texas. The weather should be perfect for a day of outdoor shopping, festival-style food and more. 4550 W. University. 8 a.m.-5 p.m. all three days. Free admission; parking is $5 on Saturdays and Sundays before 3 p.m. and free all day Friday.

Texas Legends Neighborhood Hoops (Saturday)
Experience the thrill of basketball with The Texas Legends, NBA G League Affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, at the Old Settlers Recreation Center. Activities include basketball drills, interactive inflatables, appearance by Legends Mascot "Dunker" Generous George ("The One Man Basketball Show") Prizes and giveaways. Ages 5-14.
