Slow Down, Christmas
As a kid, I remember lying awake, listening to the clock tick, tick, tick . . . feeling the time spent waiting for Christmas seemed so expansive it might never come.

Now, I feel like I can blink and Christmas is gone.

On the church staff, we're already beginning to plan Lent. We just finished our Advent Season Celebration, and I'm wondering when I will find time to buy gifts for my friends and family before I get on a plane December 21. I forget to be here. Here in the season of Advent, awaiting Christ.

Maybe you can relate.

So I found myself running around Sunday morning, during and between worship services, going through and checking off my mental laundry list, until I happened to be in the sanctuary at the beginning of 11am worship when Pastor Danielle invited us to take a deep breath, and "be here." What a wonderful, simple thing? To suddenly stop, and be in this holy space with this holy community, aware and ready to praise God.

And so I sat for Pastor Gary's sermon, which left me ready and waiting to find God working "in unexpected places, through unexpected people" -- like a carpenter and a teenager hovering over a baby in a manger.

One worship service brought a great deal of true Advent season preparation into my heart. And so, I invite you to do one thing, and then one more thing, to really be in this Advent season. Whether it's worship, reading your Bible, joining our online Bible Study, listening to our podcast, or baking cookies for Community Lunch.

As church, we can remind each other that the real Advent preparation for Christmas is one of the heart. We can ask ourselves and each other: What does it mean, today, for Christ to break into this world and live among us? How can we be Christ in the world?

Holy Spaces Update
As many of you know our elevator has been out of order for the past few weeks. After $10,000 of unexpected repairs, it is now ready for use.

Our elevator is an important gift to our ministry as it allows for accessibility in our building. We do not only say all are welcome. We work hard to make sure that is true. Gaskets and motors might not feel like ministry, but to those who can now come to the sanctuary for worship or eat a hot meal in our community hall, they are essential.

Financial contributions to our community keep our ministry moving forward and allow us to make remove barriers of participation for people. Thank you for your generosity. And if you haven't yet, please consider how you can financially support God's ministry here at Advent.
Stewardship & Our 2019 Budget
As Advent prepares for 2019, we have begun working on our budget. It is especially helpful to have a sense of what our income will be in the new year.

If you have not yet done so, please prayerfully fill out a commitment card with your level of giving for 2019. Commitment Cards can be found on the back table or podium in the entryway of the church or can be filled out online at

Thank you for your faithful generosity!
