October 27-28. Passing the Word: A Conference toward the future of Lutheran-Jewish and Inter-Religious Understanding. On October 27-28 the Institute for Jewish-Christian Understanding at Muhlenberg College will host a two-day conference that will incorporate the College’s annual Wallenberg Tribute with the observance of 25 years since the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s “Declaration to the Jewish Community” repudiating Martin Luther’s anti-Jewish invective and expressing the church’s desire to “live our faith with love and respect for the Jewish people.” The conference will help to examine cultivation of agile leadership for the future in our multi-religious world. November 9-17. ELCA Youth Gathering Information Sessions. The ELCA Youth Gathering is coming! While it is an AMAZING, life-changing event for many youth, it is also a HUGE investment, especially for small congregations who only have a small group of youth. Never fear! YoYoFa is forming a "1-2-3 of a Kind" Group of youth throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod who are from congregations that only have 1, 2, or 3 youth who would be able to attend. Informational sessions for youth, parents and pastors will be held throughout the synod in November. We will talk about cost, fundraising, travel plans, mini-retreats prior and more.

November 16. Class for Lay Persons. Don’t Be Scared of the Apocalypse: Reading Revelation with the Churches.” Leader: Pastor Mark Rigg. Class meets at the Lutheran Center, 2345 Grove Road, Allentown from 9 am-12 noon. Any member or friend of a NEPS congregation is welcomed to attend. Cost is $10 and can be paid the morning of the event, but you must register by Monday, November 11 by contacting Deacon Marlane Druckenmiller (marlane@nepsynod.org).

May 2020. Visit Our Saxony Companion Synod. Have you ever considered visiting Germany? An invitation has been received from our Saxony companion synod inviting a delegation of 15 to visit Germany this coming spring. It is an opportunity to explore our historical roots, reflect upon ministry here and abroad and strengthen our relationship with our German brothers and sisters in Christ. We are looking to travel between May 3 and 15(depending on flights) and participants are responsible for their expenses. October 25, 7:45 P.M. During the Friday evening service at Reform Congregation Oheb Sholom (555 Warwick Dr, Wyomissing, PA 19610) Amy-Jill Levine, Ph.D., Professor of Jewish Studies, Vanderbilt Divinity School will present: “Agreeing to Disagree: How Jews and Christians Read Scripture Differently.”


October 26, 10:00 A.M. Dr. Levine will be leading an interfaith workshop entitled: “Understanding Jesus means Understanding Judaism.” This event will also be held at RCOS.

Crossroads Course at Moravian Seminary

October 31

Crossroads Late Fall Semester featuring Road Hazards begins Oct 31 and meets twice a week for four weeks. St. John, Emmaus is seeking a part-time Director of Christian Education. Requirements: Shall develop and coordinate the Christian Education programs for Cradle Roll, Sunday Church School, Confirmation Ministry, Vacation Bible School, Adult Education and Youth Ministry. Shall receive direction from and be directly responsible to the Pastor; meet with Christian Education Committee for planning. This is a part time position (approximately 15-20 hours per week). PT Music Director (10-17)

PT Music Director (15-20 hrs/wk) needed for a vibrant Lutheran congregation. Responsible for providing music for two Sunday worship services plus seasonal and holiday services. Experience with Lutheran liturgy and hymnals preferred. The ideal candidate will: provide a broad array of music (a blend of traditional and contemporary), be proficient with piano and organ; be able to lead an adult choir, hand bell choir, youth and children’s musical groups, plus Sunday School music and VBS, and work with our praise band. Saint Matthew’s United, Scranton is seeking a per diem sexton to primarily to provide custodial services, building and grounds maintenance, and cover some nights on call and be able to respond if Church alarm activates. Must live in Scranton area or near Scranton, to respond to alarms, between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM. On call reimbursement, and competitive payment to cover time and travel to respond to alarms, is included. Must be available on some Sundays from 9:00 AM to approximately 1:00 P.M to open and close the Sanctuary for Worship, receive flowers ordered, and set on altar, and other custodial duties. FT Chaplain at Luther Crest (10-1)

Responsible for providing spiritual leadership and spiritual services to residents, families, and staff. Visits all nursing care and personal care/assisted living residents upon admission/ move-in and at least quarterly. Maintains notes for each visit on the chart of each resident in the nursing care center and personal care/assisted living. Provides and/or coordinates worship opportunities for residents, e.g., weekly and special worship services, Bible studies, communion (group or private), bedside prayer. Education/Training: Rostered within the ELCA or denomination with whom ELCA has full communion partnership. Certified by Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) preferred. Certification by APC obtained within three years of employment required. Experience: A minimum of three (3) years’ pastoral experience normally required. We are looking for someone passionate about sharing the gospel through educational programs and various community and congregational activities. Director of Christian Education (4-1)

Grace, Shillington seek a part-time Director of Christian Education, 25 hours per week; specific days and hours are negotiable. The Director of Christian Education will oversee, coordinate, and administer the Christian education of Grace children and youth, and participate in community outreach to support the growth of the congregation. Bachelor’s Degree in education, ideally with an emphasis on religion. Teaching experience is preferred. Clearances and background checks are required. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to communicate with children according to their age level and ability to understand, and possess good organizational, planning, and leadership skills.
