JFNNJ Awards

Dear friends,

We’ve had another great week at the Jewish Home Family.  It’s been a special week at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh, celebrating another week in the Borsht Belt.  This special focus has been such a success that residents have requested it every year and our team has been happy to comply. This week’s Borscht Belt highlights included Sumer Games on Tuesday. Events included bowling, target practice and balloon volleyball.  On Thursday we had a “movie matinee” and showed Dirty Dancing, also a huge hit with our residents.

At Jewish Home Assisted Living, our Women’s group, Sisters in Spirit, had a Monday meeting as well as a Wednesday lunch outing. On Tuesday we had a Science program that has become very popular. This week we talked about volcanos and how they work. We even explored the theory of chemical reactions using out own volcano made out of a watermelon. There was discussion about recent volcanic activity and we learned about the differences in both these eruptions and their impact on the people living around them. We also had a great birthday celebration, with music, in Memory Lane.

Other events at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh this week included a Wednesday barbecue for residents. On Thursday, we held our new, and popular, “Inspirational Blessings” program. We discussed Bible stories, sang the song “Turn, Turn, Turn” which is from the Book of Ecclesiastes and did a great art project. This new program, created by our Activity staff, has really engaged residents in some very meaningful and positive conversations.

The Gallen Day Center continues to build our specialized program for the care of individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Our group is expanding and there is a real camaraderie developing with these participants, who come together on Tuesdays and Fridays. We take advantage of the full range of programs taking place in the Gallen Center every day and add targeted programs including boxing, Tai Chi, education and much more creating a very robust and meaningful program.

We are still collecting shoe boxes to build our Western Wall replicas in preparation for our upcoming Israel Mission. Feel free to drop them off at either campus!

All the best,
