I’ve got a little list—
I’ve got a little list.
- Sir William Schwenck Gilbert

Join us for Worship This Sunday
Final Worship on the Lawn of the Summer at 8:30
Worship in the Sanctuary at 10:00
All of us long for community and connection with others. God has given us this gift in gathering together for church. It fulfills something inside of us to do life with, encourage and be authentically involved in each other’s lives.  Won't you join us this Sunday? Come as you are for worship on the lawn at 8:30 or gather in the Sanctuary at 10 am.

Sunday's Scriptures: Matthew 16:21-28 and Romans 12:9-21

8:30 Worship on the Lawn
This Sunday is our last worship on the lawn of 2017!  The weather forecast is lovely, and the message and music will fuel you for the holiday and the week beyond.  Hope to see you there!
Communion will be served at both services!
Those who receive communion at Brecksville United Methodist Church have the option of receiving Gluten Free communion wafers, baked using a special recipe that avoids all food allergens. If you would like to request Gluten Free communion, please talk to an usher on Sunday morning.  Gluten free communion wafers are making it possible for more of God's faithful to fully participate in Communion.  Praise the Lord!

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Prayers for comfort, prayers for relief,

prayers for recovery, and prayers for safety.

Texas and Louisiana have been hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is actively providing assistance to those who need it most. There will be significant long term needs caused by this major event.

We are conducting a special offering this Sunday for UMCOR's Hurricane Relief Fund. We will have special envelopes in the bulletin for gifts of cash or check (BUMC designating the UMCOR in the memo line).  For electronic giving, visit  and select the fund for "UMCOR"

100% of your donation will go to UMCOR's Hurricane Relief efforts!

Some ways to amplify your impact:

Match Giving and Workplace Giving – Check with your employer (or former employer if you are retired) to see if you can multiply your support for UMCOR through a gift match or combined charitable campaign programs. Provide your company with UMCOR’s tax ID, 13-5562279.
Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) – If you are a federal employee, you can give to UMCOR through payroll deduction via the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). To support UMCOR through the CFC, indicate #11116 under Global Impact on your CFC pledge form.

Our last summer choir of the summer will be this Sunday.  Singers will gather in the Sanctuary at 9:15 to learn a song and share it during offering time at the 10:00 worship service. This choir is open to singers of ALL ages and ability levels! It is also a great chance for families to sing together. Join us!

PB&J Drive.
Our focus for the Brookside Food Center collection this month is Peanut Butter and Jelly.  Let’s help hungry kids of Cleveland as the school year begins.  Want to help?  Bring donations to the first floor collection bin by September 14.
One Sunday evening each month during the school year, our youth program hosts a dinner for all middle and high school youth. It’s a time for kids to build relationships with one another, develop a sense of Christian community, and have fun!  We need you to help make it happen! How?  Become a dinner sponsor!  Come serve a simple meal and enjoy it with the kids.  You don’t have to cook—you can bring pizza or take out! Want to learn more? Contact our Youth Director, Dana, at 440-526-8938 ext. 237 or or sign up on the clipboard in the Lobby.
Asbury Bremeth Begins New Study September 14.
Bishop Reuben Job wrote that “the Christian life flourishes in community.” We know that this is true anytime we take part in a small group study. The ladies of the Asbury Bremeth Circle invite you to be a part of our community that meets on the second Thursday of each month for fellowship, laughter and faith building (the tasty treats are pretty good, too!) This year we will go back to our roots and learn from the study “The Wesleyan Way.” Join us.  You will be so glad you did! Our first meeting is on September 14 at 10 am.

Fall Retreat  - Register by September 18!
Interested in a quiet, remote, prayerful weekend with your maker?  Reserve your spot on our trip to the Abbey of Genesee!  Dates are Oct. 27 - 29. Get the details HERE.
Pastor’s Midweek Bible Study
Begins Wednesday, September 20 at 7:00 pm in The Parlor
Join Pastor Clark and friends as we explore the Gospel of Luke.  Luke was an educated and cultured man, the first real historian to write about Jesus. He places Jesus at the heart of the first-century Jewish and Roman worlds into which the Christian gospel exploded. We know that what Jesus said, what he did and what happened to him has changed the course of history.   Cost of the book is $10.  But, if you can’t afford a book right now, our Corinthian Fund will cover the cost.  Sign up on Sunday or by replying to this e-mail!

Save the date!  Our Story, God’s Story.  September 24th at 7pm

What and where is God calling Brecksville United Methodist Church to do and be? How has God uniquely gifted and graced us to be in ministry with Brecksville and our surrounding community “for such a time as this?”

Mark your calendars and plan on joining us on Sunday evening, September 24 at 7 pm. Rev. Dr. Heather Lear from the UMC’s Discipleship Ministries in Nashville, TN, will lead us in a time of discovering how our stories as individuals and as church are poised to address our community’s current story. All are welcome!

In preparation for the 24th, please spend time in prayer and listening for where God may already be working in our midst. As you talk with friends, neighbors, and co-workers, what are some of the struggles facing those outside our walls? What might be the places where Brecksville can partner with God to address hurt and provide hope?
September High School Main Event.  Hey students entering grades 9-12, PLAY BALL! Come with us September 30 from 3-11pm to a Cleveland Indians baseball game!
