Your Impact this Weekend
Our ministry is directly sustained by the generosity of our congregation and friends every year. Thanks to your generosity, we are able to provide worship, learning, fellowship, community, and life-giving services to this congregation and the larger Upper West Side community. We are able to support non-profit organizations throughout New York City with our Mission Fund. We are able to keep our doors open 7 days a week so any passerby can come in to pray, reflect, or simply rest in our pews.

Your presence and pledge this weekend at our Consecration Potluck and on Consecration Sunday will have a profound impact on our ongoing vision and our ability to realize it. The pledges to give in 2017, made this Sunday, are the foundation of our 2017 budget which immediately empowers:

  • 150+ worship services with readings, preaching, music, and prayer in two languages
  • 400+ members and friends who engage in this faith community
  • 40+ ministries and programs
  • 1,800+ hot lunches served to hungry people in our community
  • 1,800+ grocery bags distributed to food-insecure families in our community
  • 1,500+ attendees at our free Music Mondays concerts
  • Distributions from our Mission Fund and Other Benevolence to 10+ ministries and non-profits doing amazing work in our city and globally
  • 2 called pastors
  • 2 synodical deacons
  • 9 staff members in administration, worship, music, education, and building
  • Contributions to our synod and the ELCA that support life-giving ministries throughout the city, country, and world

With such a great impact, giving to Advent is an incredible way for each of us to share what we have and to realize a vision bigger than any of us. In addition to supporting all of this, you'll also get to take part in shaping our ongoing vision for Advent at our Consecration Potluck at 7-9pm this Friday.

Your pledge to give in 2017 at 9am, 11am, or 12:45pm Worship this Sunday has the power to sustain everything listed above -- but we don't rely on pledges alone. It is the pledges we make, the vision we shape, and the faith we share together as a congregation that will empower a positive future for Advent Lutheran Church. Join us this weekend in the humbling and exciting process of bringing together our resources to do God's Work with Our Hands in this world.

Have Your Picture Taken for our New Directory
Who are the people who bring life and character to this church? Imagine having pictures and names to share with each other, a new pastor, and visitors. A new directory is not only a powerful resource for all of us, but also an amazing gift to a new pastor.

We're putting together a new Advent Members and Friends Directory, and we want you to be part of it.

Join us on one of six dates in October and November to get your/your family's portrait taken for our new Advent Members and Friends directory. Getting your professional portrait taken for our directory is free. There is no obligation to purchase any photo package, but you'll have the opportunity to buy any pictures you like just in time for the Christmas season.

The available dates to have your photo taken for our new directory are October 27, 28, 29, 30, and November 3, 4, 5, and 6. Schedule your appointment today!

Advent already has six graduates and we hope that more will consider taking advantage of this amazing program, a time for personal faith growth, discovering the joy of deepening your relationship with God and with your church, and clarifying our call to grace-filled service to our neighbor. Let Pastor Mills know if you are interested.
