Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a non-profit legal watchdog group dedicated to holding public officials accountable for their actions, filed a formal complaint against the super PAC and its secret donor involved in the Steve Fulop influence peddling scandal.

The CREW complaint may be viewed here: http://www.citizensforethics.org/page/-/PDFs/Legal/DE%20First%20Holdings.pdf

A second complaint was filed by Campaign Legal Center and Democracy 21, which asks the FEC to investigate whether DE First Holdings, incorporated one day before it gave $1 million to Fulop's super PAC, violated the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA).

It is worth noting that people have gone to jail for money laundering incidents like this. Some observers say the audacity of Fulop's friends is more alarming than previous crimes of this kind because the mayor is an elected official trying to move up to a higher office at the expense of citizen he is supposed to be serving.

The Washington-based campaign finance watchdog groups are appealing to the Federal Election Commission but local residents are calling on Fulop to identify the million dollar donor with a petition sponsored by MoveOn.org.
