Join TeamWorks!
The Boston Cares TeamWorks Program is focused on facilitating the shift from casual volunteering to intentional citizenship. Each TeamWorks session consists of a series of three to five projects, where individual volunteers select a team to learn about specific issues, organizations and/or communities encountered through volunteerism.  As a TeamWorks volunteer, you will join a team of 6-10 other individual volunteers and serve together over 6-8 weeks. With the kick-off in late February fast approaching, now is the perfect time to learn more and sign up!

Judge a Citywide Debate Tournament
Saturday, February 10 | 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Volunteer judges engage with students, providing vital reinforcement for the notion that students have valuable ideas to contribute to society. After the debate, judges offer encouragement, share advice for the next round, and tell the tournament organizers who won.

*No debate experience is necessary to be an effective judge.

Volunteers are trained at the start of each tournament and students are expected to adapt their arguments to their judges, whether they’ve debated for a decade or never seen a debate in their lives.

Assemble Grocery Bags for Distribution at the American Red Cross
Friday, February 9th | 8:15 AM - 12:00 PM

Volunteers will prepare bags of groceries with fresh and frozen foods (may include meat and fish) as well as dry goods and cans to be distributed the next morning to clients. All volunteers are REQUIRED to wear sturdy shoes or sneakers. For safety reasons, no open-toed shoes or sandals will be allowed in the warehouse. During the cooler months, please bring warm clothing and a pair of gloves, as it can get cold in the warehouse while handling frozen food packages.

Please do not bring any valuables (i.e. smartphones, jewelry, etc.) to this project. If this is not possible, please keep all valuable items with you at all times. The Red Cross Food Pantry is not responsible for any lost items.

Help with Childcare at the Jeremiah Program
Tuesday, February 13th | 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

The Jeremiah Program offers one of the nation’s most successful strategies for transforming families from poverty to prosperity two generations at a time. Jeremiah prepares determined single mothers to excel in the workforce, readies their children to succeed in school, and reduces generational dependence on public assistance.

Mothers will be attending class and their children will need some love and care and play while they wait for them!  Volunteers should be ready to run around and play with kids of all ages! Ages range from less than one year to about 13 years old. This project is for you if you are energetic and do well with young children! Come ready with games ideas!
