'SO LONG, AND THANKS FOR ALL THE FISH' - Joe Connell is ending his 12-year tenure at the Habitat ReStore with a quote from "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.' It's apropos for Joe, whose last day is September 22. He's heading back home to Maine for his next adventure. Before we speculate on what that might be, let's take a look at Joe's ReStore legacy....
Thanks, Joe. We wish you all the best!
Summer at The ReStore: Shadanny Lagunas, Jenny Hoang, Sead Mohammed and Daniel Dynes are four of the more than 30 high school students who worked in June-August at ReStores in Portland, Beaverton and Gresham through SummerWorks, a program partially funded by the US Department of Labor. The program teaches students job and career preparedness while allowing them to earn wages for working up to 180 hours. What did these students learn?

Renewal by Anderson
Windows "R" Us

Single and multi-pane sash windows are pretty popular items among DIY homeowners and artisans, so we are mighty thankful for Renewal by Andersen. As of this writing they have donated nearly 700 salvaged windows to Habitat ReStore. You can find them priced between $5 and $20 at ReStore locations in Portland, Gresham and Vancouver. (Others will hit the Washington County ReStore later in the week.)
Here's a cool trick that is pretty amazing and very kid friendly.
ReStore shopper, Denise Moudree, shared this Pinterest idea with us.
1. Apply color markers to white tile.
2. Lightly spray with 90% Isopropyl rubbing alcohol. (You can also use a dropper)
3. Let dry
4. Seal with fixative
5. Apply sticky foam pieces to the underside to prevent scratching tabletops.
Option: Once sealed, you can add rubber stamp designs on top, then reseal. Boo-boo? Erase w/alcohol.

Stolen truck still missing
Last month the ReStore's Salvage Service truck was stolen. Police have not been able to locate it so we are asking you to continue to watch for the pickup. If you spot it, please call Portland PD's non-emergency #: 503-823-3333. At this point, we aren't very optimistic, so if you have a truck to donate, please contact Joe Connell at jconnell@pdxrestore.org.
