NCSEJ brought Moscow Chief Rabbi and President of the Conference of European Rabbis Pinchas Goldschmidt to the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor to meet with newly-appointed U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Elan Carr, and Stacy Bernard Davis, Senior Advisor for Combating Anti-Semitism.
 
 
 
 

NCSEJ Meeting with Prime Minister of Czech Republic Andrej Babis 

March 8 

NCSEJ met with Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš. Czech Ambassador to the United States Hynek Kmoníček and Vice-Chair of the Research, Development and Innovation Council Karel Havlícek accompanied the Prime Minister. Representatives of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, American Jewish Committee, Anti-Defamation League, and B’nai B’rith International also participated.

CSIS / CACI Forum on “Azerbaijan in a Changing Caucasus: Developments in Foreign and Domestic Policies”

Deputy Director Lesley Weiss and Atlas Fellow Bella Goldshtein attended a forum hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies and Central Asia-Caucasus Institute and Silk Road Studies Program on “Azerbaijan in a Changing Caucasus: Developments in Foreign and Domestic Policies” with senior Azerbaijani parliamentarians. Speakers discussed social, political, and economic developments in the region.

Meeting with Chairman of the Georgian State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashak-madze

NCSEJ and B'nai B'rith International hosted the Chairman of the Georgian State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakmadze and Counselor of the Embassy of Georgia to the U.S. Levan Khurtsidze. During the meeting, they discussed the positive history (and present) of Georgian-Jewish relations, the current state of Jews in Georgia, and the Georgian government’s work to protect religious and cultural sites.

Kyiv Jewish Forum

May 5-7

A delegation of nine NCSEJ leaders in Kyiv, Ukraine attended the inaugural Kyiv Jewish Forum, organized by the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine. Chairman Daniel Rubin and CEO Mark B. Levin were featured speakers at the Forum. Rubin delivered remarks at a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine, an association of Ukrainian public organizations focused on Jewish charity work founded in 1999. Levin spoke on a panel today at the Forum entitled "The Future of the Global Jewry: International Perspective."

NCSEJ's delegation was part of a group of Jewish leaders who met on Sunday with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, thanking him for his years of service to the Ukrainian people, including Ukraine's Jewish community, and particularly for his work to commemorate the Holocaust-era massacre of Jewish Ukrainians at Babi Yar.

Chairman Daniel Rubin delivered remarks at a gala dinner honoring the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine, an association of Ukrainian public organizations focused on Jewish charity work, founded in 1999.

Attendance Dedication at the "Anatevka" Jewish Refugee Community in Ukraine

NCSEJ participated in the dedication of the new ‘Beit Shmuel’ Rehab Center at the Anatevka Jewish Refugee Community in Ukraine, eighteen miles west of the capital city of Kyiv. The project was funded by Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) President Mikhail Mirilashvili and Alexander Levin, Chair of the Kyiv Jewish Community and an EAJC Vice-President. Other participants in the dedication included President of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine Borys Lozhkin and Chairman of the Jewish Community of Moldova Emmanuil Grinshpoon.
 
 
 
 


Meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan

NCSEJ began its 2019 Mission to Moldova in the capital city of Chisinau (Kishinev). The eight-member delegation traveled to Moldova to learn about the current condition of the Moldovan Jewish community and to advocate for issues of concern. The day began with a breakfast at the residence of U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan, where the group discussed concerns related to the U.S.-Moldova bilateral relationship and the current situation of the Jewish community.
 
 
 
 
 
Meeting with President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon

The delegation met President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon. The President highlighted the importance of the Moldovan Government's cooperation with the local Jewish community, the State of Israel, and international Jewish organizations, especially with NCSEJ. He underlined that the Moldovan Government is ready to launch humanitarian, social, and educational projects together with NCSEJ. The NCSEJ delegation was joined by President of the Moldovan Jewish Community Alexander Bilinkis and the President of the Jewish Congress of Moldova Emmanuil Grinshpun.
 
 
 
 


Meeting with Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova Andrian Candu

The delegation met with the speaker of the Parliament of Moldova Andrian Candu. NCSEJ raised issues regarding: restitution of Jewish communal property; anti-Semitic campaign rhetoric in the lead-up to the February 2019 parliamentary election; equal rights for all religious denominations; and the plan to establish an open-air Jewish museum at the site of the Kishinev Jewish cemetery.

 
 
 
 

Roundtable on Promoting Holocaust Education and Preventing Hate Crimes

NCSEJ participated in an educational roundtable sponsored by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi and Minister of Education, Culture, and Research Monica Babuc, on promoting Holocaust education and preventing hate crimes. At the roundtable, Minister Babuc announced plans to expand the curriculum for Holocaust education in Moldova's public school system.
 
 
 
 

Meeting with Minister of the Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici

The group met with Minister of the Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici to discuss Jewish community issues. The Minister presented a book on Moldova to NCSEJ Board of Governors member Robert Spitalnick, and Spitalnick presented the minister with a decorative wood-and-silver tzedakah box from NCSEJ.
 
 
 
 

Meeting with Rabbi Shimshon Daniel Izakson

The group met with Chief Rabbi of Moldova Shimshon Daniel Izakson at Kedem Synagogue to discuss the current situation of the Jewish life in the country and opportunities for the future cooperation between NCSEJ and the Moldovan Jewish Community.

Yom HaShoah Program at the U.S. State Department

NCSEJ CEO Mark Levin and Deputy Director Lesley Weiss attended a Yom HaShoah program at the U.S. Department of State, remembering the Holocaust in Belarus and the liquidation of the Minsk Ghetto. Speakers included Belarus Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Kravchenko, Charge d’affaires Pavel Shidlovsky, U.S. Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues Tom Yazdgerdi, and Saveliy Kaplinskiy, a survivor of the Minsk ghetto.

Memorial Museum to meet with Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini. The Prime Minister also participated in a commemoration ceremony, which took place there earlier.
 
 
 
 

Meeting with Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Delegation

NCSEJ hosted a Belarusian delegation: Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Kravchenko, Embassy Charge d’affaires Pavel Shidlovsky, and Larysa Belskaya, Director of Multilateral Diplomacy for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We discussed the development of Belarusian Jewish life, the state of Jewish cemeteries, Holocaust remembrance, and U.S.-Belarus relations.

Trans-Caspian Forum 2019

NCSEJ CEO Mark Levin attended the 4th Trans-Caspian Forum, discussing the trans-Caspian trade and transit corridor  The Caspian Policy Center and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce co-organized the Forum, along with the Embassies of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
