Dear friends,

We had wonderful Shavuot celebrations to start off our week, with both services and discussion programs on both campuses. We also had lots of conversation across the Jewish Home Family about the royal wedding this week. We shared videos of the events and at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh we even had lovely tea while we watched. The ladies were decked out in their fascinator hats, all of them unique creations they designed themselves! There was much conversation about royal traditions and many wishes of happiness for the couple.

Other highlights at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh this week included a classical ballet performance. Not only did everyone love it but one of our residents is a former ballerina and she particularly appreciated the performance. On Thursday afternoon, our long time volunteers and friends, Joel Katz and Beverly Walsh, came in and shared photos and a presentation about their re ent trip to South Africa.

At Jewish Home Assisted Living, our knitting circle was busy. They are a group of residents and volunteers who make baby blankets and caps that they donate to local hospitals. Not only do they enjoy keeping their hands busy, they enjoy chatting with each other during each session. We had great lunch outings this week, one each for our Assisted Living and Memory Lane residents. Residents also enjoyed our monthly hands-on science program, this week working with polymers to show the residents a practical working model of how scientists are using immunotherapy to fight cancer. There’s also lots of excitement about Memorial Day and the official start to summer!

In the Gallen Day Center we also had a great week. Our specialized Parkinson’s program continues with boxing and Tai Chi. We had a participant council meeting and, of course, music and dancing. Our baking for the week was delicious banana bread and we ended the week with one of our favorite entertainers, the Sassy Ladies, who livened up our day with a Memorial Day show.

We were also excited to get some more national publicity for the Jewish Home Family this week. Here is the link for you if you’d like to see it: https://www.mcknightsseniorliving.com/guest-columns/art-program-has-positive-effects-on-residents-staff-community-relations/article/767239/. It’s all about our wonderful Opening Minds through Art program. You can see more OMA at our upcoming show at the Belskie Museum in Closter during the month of June.

All the best,
