This Week's Parashat: Nitzvaim

SUMMARY:

Moses tells the assembled people that God's covenant speaks to them and to all of the generations who will follow. (Deut 29:9–14)

God warns the Israelites that they will be punished if they act idolatrously, the way the inhabitants of the other nations do. (Deut 29:15–28)

Moses reassures the people that God will not forsake them and that they can attain blessings by following God's commandments. (Deut 30:1–20)

A Note for our Visitors:

Beginning with these Days of Awe, please be aware that we will no longer be hosting Community Services on the first day of Rosh Hashanna.  However, everyone is most welcome and invited to participate in the Morning Service for the Second Day of Rosh Hashanna out on the patio (weather permitting).  This service will not require a ticket of any kind and you are welcome to bring as many guests as you wish.

Services on Yom Kippur will be open to all, as usual, immediately following the Morning Service for Yom Kippur which, because of the great number of people, is for members of the Beth Miriam family.

We are looking forward to welcoming all people to our services and events during the events and services for these Days of Awe.

Wednesday Theology Class

The Wednesday Theology class is in the advanced stages of being planned.  This year we will study a most meaningful text, Pirke Avot with a distinctly spiritual slant and social justice lens. You will find it engaging and, best of all, useful in your own lives.  The class meets on Wednesdays at 10 am and, when the final calendar is done, I will get the information to everyone on the Elijah list.

We will be studying from the new Pirkei Avot book which can be found at this link.
