Sandra Kearney is a seasoned sales and management professional with small business owner experience in a variety of industries. Her early career was based in the service/hospitality industry, including Marriott International and Brinker International (Chili’s), where she received world-class training and gained valuable skills, experience, and knowledge of business processes and effectiveness. Sandy was always promoted quickly to higher responsibilities, working in leadership positions in the areas of Marketing, Management, Employee Relations and Customer Service.


She earned her Personal Training Certification in 2006 and discovered her ultimate passion in helping people achieve greater results physically, mentally, and in every area of life. Sandy purchased New Life Health and Wellness, a fitness center, in 2008. Prior to the purchase, the fitness center was doing poorly with only 88 members. She applied her sales, marketing, and process improvement skills and doubled the membership each year, growing quickly to over 500 members. Sandy also added staff, independent contractors, several services, and new programs, resulting in additional revenue gains. She completed her goal in 2015 by selling the business at a healthy profit.

Old Colony Elder Services' (OCES) third annual family friendly "Moving Heels for Meals on Wheels" 5K Road Race/Walk to benefit the Meals on Wheels program will be held Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 9 a.m. All funds raised support OCES' vital Meals on Wheels program.

Race Day: The race begins at 9:00 a.m. at Silver Lake Regional High School, 260 Pembroke Street in Kingston, MA 02364. Online registration for the Moving Heels for Meals on Wheels 5K is $25 for adults; $20 for students age 11-18; $15 for children (age 10 and under) and children in carriages ride free.   
 
All participants will receive a swag bag and water will be provided. Register by Tuesday, April 17th to receive a race T-shirt.  
 
Costume Contest for Kids: Children age 12 and under are encouraged to wear a food themed costume (carrot, apple, etc.) that best represents healthy living and nutrition for a chance to win a special prize.

Joins Southeastern Massachusetts Legislative Alliance

The Cranberry Country Chamber of Commerce, Bristol County Chamber of Commerce, Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber,  Metro South Chamber, South Coast Chamber, Taunton Area Chamber, Tri-Town Chamber, and the United Regional Chamber of Commerce make up the:  “Southeastern Massachusetts Legislative Alliance”.
The purpose behind the  chambers collaborating on government affairs is to address regional challenges and opportunities in current and future legislation at the State House in Boston and Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

New Employer Health Care Tax Now in Effect
Employers’ liability unknown until April 1st
The MA Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) has finalized regulations and FAQ’s on the new employer health care tax to be implemented through an increase in the Employer Medical Assistance Contribution (EMAC), which took effect on January 1. The temporary assessment was adopted last year as part of the state budget. 
The EMAC is an existing tax that most employers pay as part of their unemployment insurance taxes. EMAC funds are used to pay for subsidized health care for low-income residents of the Commonwealth. This increase has two parts, or tiers:
1. A temporary increase in the existing EMAC, and
2. A temporary supplemental assessment for employers with employees covered under MassHealth (the MA Medicaid program) or subsidized coverage through the MA Health Connector.
The former EMAC contribution rate was 0.34% of wages, up to an annual wage cap of $15,000, with a potential maximum cost of $51 per employee per year. For the wages paid in the years 2018 and 2019, the EMAC contribution has been increased to 0.51% up to the annual wage cap of $15,000, for a potential maximum cost per employee of $77 per employee per year.
The EMAC Supplement applies to employers with more than five employees whose non-disabled employees obtain health insurance either from MassHealth (excluding the premium assistance program) or subsidized coverage through the Connector. The Supplement is 5% of annual wages for each non-disabled employee, up to the annual wage cap of $15,000, for a maximum assessment of $750 per employee per year.
The increases are now in effect and are set to expire on December 31, 2019. Employers will see their first EMAC increases and EMAC Supplement costs (if any) in their first quarter unemployment insurance bills (on or about April 1).
