Budget Vote and Trustee Election News


The Board of Trustees of the Saugerties Public Library will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2019 budget at the regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday, August 14th. Copies of the proposed budget are available at the library and by clicking here

 

Absentee ballots will be available at the library on Tuesday, August 21.

 

The Budget Vote and Trustee Election will be at the library on

Thursday, September 6 from 10am to 8pm.

Drawing Club: Inspired by the Natural World

Tuesday, August 7, 21 & September 4


Experience various drawing materials and techniques and find your muse in Mother Earth’s creations and your own heart. Art heals and lifts your spirit; come and play and discover or reawaken your innate gift to make art! Materials will be supplied, but you may bring your own supplies that you love.


This workshop is for adults. Come to one or all sessions.

Junior Magic: The Gathering Draft

Saturday, August 11 at 10:30am

Ages 15 and under. Come knowing how to play. Build your own deck with the newest set, Core Set 2019. Bring your own lands. Registration mandatory. Draft is $5.

   

 

Lean to Knit Birds

Saturday, August 18 at 1:30pm

 

Learn how to knit your very own birds in this 3 hour workshop taught by Jenn and Pat Richards. Bring your own supplies or purchase them at the workshop. 


 Be cool! Join the knitting circle. A fun project.

Participants will need 2 sixteen inch needles size 2's or 3's,

3/4 of an ounce of sock yarn.

A small amount of stuffing.

A wide eyed yarn needle

A small size crochet hook (optional) for the beak.

 

Kits with all the necessary needles, yarn, stuffing

and wide eyed needle will be available to purchase for $12.

 

The bird is comprised of knit, purl, knit two together,

and increase a stitch.

 Basic Yoga

This is a beginner yoga class with emphasis on gentle, relaxing, restorative techniques.

 

Taught by community member Daniel Guzman. Guzman has been practicing yoga for more than 15 years. Wear comfortable clothes. All are welcome.

Ulster County Office of the Aging is sponsoring a free intermediate drop-in class Benefits Include:

  • Increase strength
  • Improve balance and posture
  • Help prevent falls
  • Strengthen mind, body and spirit
  • Reduce stress and support relaxation

These drop-in Tai Chi classes are intended for seniors who have already attended the 8-week intro class to continue their practice.

The SPL is proud to offer a museum pass program that provides free admission to museums in the region. SPL card holders can visit these participating institutions using museum passes borrowed from the Library. The Friends of the SPL generously provide funding for the museum pass program.

Fitness Hour is an aerobic warm-up followed by a combination of band and body work. There will be an emphasis on core strengthening, working both back & abs. It will end with a relaxing stretch.

Classes are instructed by Connie Scuitto. Connie is an RN and certified Reiki Master. Since 1995 she has been certified by the American Council on Exercise as a Cardio-strength instructor and has worked in the fitness industry for 40 years.

Puzzle Swap

The library has jigsaw puzzles upstairs in the alcove by the elevator that patrons may swap!

 

Kindle Paperwhites

 

Patrons who are 18 or older who live in Saugerties with $5 or fewer in fines can check out a Kindle Paperwhite for two weeks with one renewal. Just see a staff member at the Information Desk and sign your eReader Loan Agreement.

Saugerties Oral History Project on StoryCorps Website

 

The Stories of Saugerties Oral History Project is a collection of oral history interviews with people who have lived or worked in Saugerties. The interviews began in the summer of 2017, organized by oral historian Lisa Polay. The first round of interviews is now on the StoryCorps website and part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. These interviews were collected by community volunteers.
