Faith and Film in the Washington Times
On December 14th the Washington Times printed a Special Report prepared in collaboration with Mastermedia International and Bryan Hickox Pictures. It was called “Faith and Film II – The Bright Future of Faith-friendly Films and Filmmaking." It featured 15 different articles written by 13 industry professionals and/or ministry leaders and it was powerful. One of the articles is written by Karen Covell and we hope that you will enjoy reading hers and all the others below.

Russell Brand
Thank the Lord for a miraculous change in comedian Russell Brand's heart! He has come to a healing, saving love of Jesus after years of darkness and we want to celebrate with him all that the Lord has done and continues to do in his heart. And may we pray that Russell's new life will encourage all of the people around him to move a step closer to the Lord as well.

Awards Shows Requests:

Pray for all of the people involved in the myriad of Awards shows this month – both televised and private. Our industry lifts up the best in every creative category representing every genre of 2017 programming – from miniseries, to dramatic and comedy television, to specials, reality shows, talk shows, sports shows, animated films to live action films. Some of them have never heard of the saving grace of God! We want to be praying for them to experience the love, hope, joy, creativity and peace of the Lord in their careers and personal lives. Read more about each awards show below.
  • The Golden Globe Awards, which aired on January 7th, started the industry’s Awards season. What wins there is always a serious contender for the Oscars. Would you pray for the nominees, the winners, and all those involved in this show as you see the list of Golden Globe results below.
  • The 29th annual PGA Awards, presented by the Producers Guild of America, Awards dinner on Jan. 20th at the Beverly Hills Hotel.  Hundreds of decision-makers gather as the top producers of television, cable shows and films.
  • The 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, presented by SAG-AFTRA, follow up the PGA Awards on Sunday, Jan. 21st, where they celebrate the actors in films and TV shows, specials and series. They will be broadcast on TNT and TBS that evening.
  • The 60th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be on Jan. 28th and aired at 4:40pm PST on CBS from their live show at Madison Square Gardens in New York City. The host is James Corden and there will be performances from major bands and artists all evening.  They will honor the best songs, albums and scores of 2017.
  • The 70th Directors Guild of America Awards will be held on Sat., Feb. 3rd in Beverly Hills and the host of the event is Judd Apatow. They will celebrate the best directors in film and television and highlight the work that they do.
  • Pray for the Writers Guild of America Awards on Feb. 10th in concurrent ceremonies in LA and NYC. For the first time they will be giving out an award for the best writer on a video game, showing the growing market and influence of video games. HPN believes that the script is the most crucial element to any film and TV show, so please pray.

Remembering Janet and Praying for Tim
We lost a dear member of our Christian community in Hollywood last week. Janet Raycroft Farmer was a member of the Actor’s Co-Op for years, and her husband Tim still builds incredible sets for that ministry and for TV shows all over the city. Please pray for Tim as he deals with the loss of his dear wife.
Pray for your Favorite Celebrities
Have we ever thought about praying for the celebrities that we enjoy listening to, watching or following on social media? And do we really believe our prayers for celebrities make a difference? An HPN member shared a blog with us that addresses this issue with insight and wisdom. As you pray for the Hollywood “stars” who impact your life, would you read the post below and pass it on to others in order to help us mobilize more prayer for the decision-makers and cultural influencers in Hollywood in 2018!
Praying for Teen Idols
Sundance Film Festival
Pray for the Sundance Film Festival as it opens this January 18th. Please pray for the films that will be picked up, the filmmakers there and the impact that they have on the audiences through the messages and images in their films.

Pray for Students in the Windrider Forum
A special group of Christian film students and Seminary students are flying up to Sundance, Utah, to attend the Sundance Film Festival. They are part of the Windrider Forum, which is led by two visionary Christian brothers who want young filmmakers to be part of the cultural conversation. Windrider will bring film professors and ministry leaders, along with a group of chosen students, to meet with the Sundance filmmakers, ask them questions and have spiritual discussions about their films. It’s a powerful program and so please pray with us for the students’ ability to love these filmmakers and start meaningful conversations, and that they will be used by the Lord to move the filmmakers a step closer to Jesus, through their presence at the festival. Also, pray for the leaders of The Windrider Forum.
About the Windrider Forum
Pray for the 2018 Winter Olympics
Pray for all of the anchors, interviewers, crews and athletes involved in the 2018 Winter Olympics this February 9 – 25th in Pyeongchang County, South Korea. Television is the key to connecting those games with the rest of the world and each country shows their own interests and biases by what games they choose to air, what people they take time to profile, and what messages their audiences receive by these choices. Please ask for wisdom as you watch the Olympics so that you know who to pray for and understand what’s really happening over there through what you watch. And pray for the Christians who will be at the games, so that they will have a spiritual impact on the people they spend time with there.

Pray for Television Networks
The TV Networks are starting to choose what TV Pilots they are going to pick up for new series starting in the Fall. This is a time to pray that each of the networks will have wise, creative decision-makers choosing what the nation will be watching in September. One of the initial shows chosen is a clairvoyant Cop Drama called “In Between Lives” on NBC.
In Between Lives
Pray for Writers in TV and Film
Pray for the growing number of TV and film writers who are tackling the issue of faith through their characters and stories. There are many beautiful scenes in films and television episodes that depict faith with great respect and clarity and there are other shows and films that are all over the map spiritually, based on the belief and/or experience of the writers. Let’s embrace the spiritual journeys of writers who are willing to struggle with their own questions in their work and either celebrate their conclusions or pray for them to find answers to their questions, concerns, and struggles. One great example of faith is in Chuck Lorre and his writing staff’s show, “Young Sheldon” (CBS), in last week’s episode focusing on Sheldon’s Christian childhood.
Faith in "Young Sheldon"
Pray for Barry Gibb, Curiousity, and Doubt
Barry Gibb, of The Bee Gees, in his 40 year music career has written many film scores and songs, including “How Deep Is Your Love,” was recently quoted as saying that he wonders if there really is a God. He is only one example of the world’s celebrities who don’t always have a Christian around to answer questions like that. Would you pray for Barry to find his creator God, and for others like him, who want to know God but they don’t know how. Your prayers truly do make an eternal difference! Below is a video of Barry performing in Glastonbury in 2017.
