Believing for Rwanda

This week in

Mega Sports Camp
After a few quick weeks home, some much needed family time, and amazing outreach in New York City, we are on the go again. We have joined the Disney,Oklahoma Teen Challenge adolescent program for ministry in Rwanda.
East Africa sub-region director Willy Rumenera and his team set an aggressive agenda for outreach including training, chapel, street ministry, outreach, correctional facility, and a huge citywide rally for Sunday night and a national television appearance.

  1. Teen Challenge Ministry
  2. Pastor's Awareness
  3. Major outreach meeting in the Kigali Transit Center
  4. Evangelism meetings in Kigali and outside in the neighboring villages
  5. Kigali Citywide Festival hosted by First Assembly of God
  6. SUNDAY LIVE -on Rwanda broadcasting which goes into over 10 million homes and will be streamed globally on Sunday, 20 August --http:///tv .
We appreciate your prayers. We could not see the miracles which we experience every mission without your prayers and support. Thank you for standing with us and for standing in the GAP for them.. Thank you for believing God, and believing in the amazing call to reach the Lost God has given to Teen Challenge.
What a blessing to join Pastor Jimmy Jack with Ramon Rosa, Willie Ramos, & the Rock the Block Team in New York. We were "in the hood" in Hemp stead- battling thunder storms and spiritual principalities--my favorite kind of meeting. We blocked a street, invaded with the gospel and God did the rest! As we prayed against the storm, some literally watched the storm split in half on both sides of us as it passed. Over 100 at each of 2 altar calls.
From Long Island to downtown New Rochelle with Hall of Fame pitcher, Mariano Rivera. He retired from Major League Baseball after the 2013 season as baseball’s all-time saves leader (652) playing 19 seasons for the New York Yankees, from 1995 to 2013. A 13-time All-Star and 5-time World Series champion, he is Alb's career leader in saves and games finished. His most important saves are still ahead as he and his wife, Clara  pastor Refugio De Esperanza (Refuge of Hope Church). With Jimmy Jack, we were blessed to minister with them and their team on the street with ROCK the BLOCK.
We also met to prayerfully discussed faith- based options in the War on Drugs, as Mariano Rivera & Jimmy Jaxck serve on President Trump's
Commission on Opioid Abuse. It is a strategic opportunity to engage the faith based community and offer real solutions rather than just throwing taxpayer dollars at ineffective programs with no real results. Please pray that God will open doors and create fresh opportunities to engage this exploding pandemic with Hope in Jesus Christ

The Eyes of God

For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.

II Chronicles 16:9

It was a time in Israel’s history when idolatry ruled the day. Following the death of Solomon one ungodly king after another sat on the throne from Rehoboam to Abijah to Asa. When Asa became king, 2Chronicles 14:2 says, “He did good right and right in the sight of the Lord His God."

In verse 8, the Army of Ethiopia came out against him with one million men and 300 chariots. Outnumbered almost 2-1, they turned their hearts to Jehovah. God granted supernatural deliverance. In the face of that amazing miracle you might think this story continues from blessing to blessing. He started so well- is there a happily ever after?

2 Chronicles 15 tells us they began to cleanse the land. Verse 17 says, though they were cleansing the land, “the high places were not removed from Israel.” It wasn’t that Asa didn’t love God. He just thought it would be okay to add a few idols to his worship because “everybody did it.”

Jehovah plus anything equals nothing.
Jehovah plus nothing equals everything!

When Baasha came against him with an army a fraction of the size of Ethiopia's army, the blessing of trusting God was replaced by the habit of trusting self. He turned to a pagan king for protection. He took the silver and gold from the treasuries of the house of the Lord and paid Ben-hadad to defend him. That is the context of the prophet's word in the verse above.

After the amazing promise, the prophet tells Asa, “You have acted foolishly in this, indeed from now on you will surely have wars.” It is still true today. Do you want to go from struggle to struggle, battling in our own strength, or walk in supernatural victory!
Supernatural victory starts with trust!

2 Chronicles 15:12  the  Bible says Asa became diseased in his feet “yet even in his disease he did not seek the Lord but the physicians.” A habit of trusting self became a practice of disobedience that, in the end, cost Asa his life and legacy. The prophet Jeremiah told him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the LORD.'" Jer 17:15

His dream of "happily ever after" ended in a nightmare of his own design. It is not the rejection of God that was the greatest peril, It is the tendency to look for God "plus something." It is keeping God only as an option of last resorts, the danger of trading real spiritual treasure for the illusion of momentary earthly pleasures.

What treasures are we willing to surrender to the culture, our job, the TV set, internet, or FaceBook? The high places of 2017 are not be a statue or an asharam pole. Likely they are digital in nature-yet every bit as dangerous as the idols of Israel, 900 years BC.

Fox News and CNN, and even the best politicians in the world, do not have an answer for the crisis in North Korea or Iran. But our safety is not from man, it is from God. No matter what you face today. No matter what your experience was yesterday. No matter your fear of tomorrow, we must make a commitment to finish strong.

When we trust God:
There is no mess that cannot become a miracle
There is no pain that cannot be turned to praise.
There is no terror that He cannot turn to triumph.

For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.

II Chronicles 16:9

It was a real blessing to reconnect with Pastor Ruben (Hector)Taverez, a Teen Challenge Choir member in 1987. He is now a youth pastor, coach, husband, and father of three.

He sang in our TC choir in 1987 and was part of our first international team in 1989. He has been a pastor for over 2 decades and is now youth pastor with Pastors Clara and Mariano Rivera in New Rochelle, NY.
Mega Sports Camp

What a blessing for Cathy and i to join our son Bernie, his wife Sara, the team from Lighthouse Worship Center in Gloucester, VA and over 200 campers & staff for Mega Sports Camp, Conquer the Day. They gathered for 5 days. They sang, shouted, exercised, and learned sports basics, (basketball, soccer & cheerleading) as well as life lessons and the Word and promise of God.

My son Bernie and his team did an amazing job. Learning sports, exercise, and fun were featured every day from Mega Monday, Total Team Tuesday, to Finish Strong Friday. Still, the real eternal value of MEGA SPORTS CAMP, Conquer the Day was in communicating life skills and spiritual truth that would do more than enhance athletic skills, but impart real spiritual insight. The theme scripture was Romans 8:37, More than Conquerors..

At the end of the Tuesday session, 99 came to the altar to commit their lives to Jesus Christ. More than that, it was exciting to see Lighthouse Worship Center packed on Sunday morning as the parents came to celebrate at the award ceremony and some of them prayed to receive Jesus.

We do not receive salary or travel from Global Teen Challenge. Your donation impacts lives. We are grateful for your donation, but your gift is not for Cathy and me, but the lives God touches as we reach out, empowered by your partnership. Your gift makes it possible to take this Good News around the world and raise up workers for this amazing end-time harvest.

26 points past fatal- Remembering our miracle
By the time I got to the hospital in New York, my condition medically had become desperate. The CAT scan revealed six large emboli in my lungs and left leg, the doctor shared, "Examinations showed more small clots than can I can count as well as fragments lodged throughout the lung," The accumulated impact of DVT's  (deep vein thromboses) developed over many mission flights. Only God's grace saved me. CLICK FOR VIDEO

Please pray for us as we sort through many invitations. We are prayerfully considering opportunities including South Sudan and other sensitive nations that we cannot mention online.

Again I say
unto you,
That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done
for them of
my Father which is in heaven.

We are heading for Rwanda with Teen Challenge from Disney, Oklahoma to reach from Kigali, past the city and into the mountains. We will bring the Good News to villages severely impacted by the genocide. Pastor Willy is also planning a city-wide outreach in Kigali.

As the American press attacks President Trump for his rhetoric, while ignoring and giving a pass to the words and serious threats uttered by Kim Jong Il - we need to pray.

Join with us to pray for peace in the city in Charlottesville, VA. after the violence of this past weekend, for God's peace and spirit of reconciliation to fall upon the people. We stand against actions that promote division and spread hatred and racism. We pray against the spirit behind such actions. The scriptures are clear, and they do not leave room for hate:

Please join with us and our District Superintendent in praying for Pastor Pete and Fran Hartwig and the congregation of City Church, Pastor Pete and Amy Bullette and the students of Chi Alpha at UVA, and Pastors Jon and Rebecca Burtram and the congregation of Redemption Church Charlottesville. Long after the media has lost interest, these ministries will be working to restore people’s trust in God and one another. We pray that God will grant them wisdom, direction, and the ability to bring healing to a hurting city.

3) MADAGASCAR-Pastor's Awareness

We are still following up with Dr Jacobus Nomdoe on 101 letters and emails we sent to key leaders in Madagascar, who desire to continue to move with the vision for residential care, Living Free and outreach. Please pray that the seeds of interest concerning Teen Challenge will flourish in those with a passion to reach the lost, broken and addicted in Madagascar. One pastor said, "We can't let this die!" As dialogue continues, please pray that new Teen Challenge centers will be opened for the marginalized and genuinely needy in this wonderful nation.

On August 8 Kenya voted in its fifth set of elections since the end of the 1-party state in 1991. On August 11, Kenya’s independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission declared President Uhuru Kenyatta the winner with 54.27% percent of the votes. Please pray for a peaceful continuation of power in Kenya.
TC Staff suffered through 3 of the Kenya’s 4 previous elections, marred by violence, including the 2007-2008 election when 1,100 people were killed and 650,000 displaced. Party primaries in April this year were fraught with violence and rights abuses, but we are believing God for peace.

While the General Council of the Assemblies of God wraps up in California, we give thanks for what God is doing and commit to the job still before us.
While these statistics are a reason to rejoice, in the words Dr Nance, Pres CEO of Global TC, “We do not have the luxury of measuring our success against anything but the unfinished task.”

Some observations . . .

1. Growing

The Assemblies of God (USA) experienced its 27th consecutive year of growth in 2016, with 3.24 million adherents and 2 million attending major worship services . In 2016, the AG saw an all-time high of new church plants and water baptisms and a 16 percent increase in Spirit baptisms. A new AG church is planted in the U.S. every 21 hours.

2. Diverse
Whereas the U.S. population is 39 percent racial or ethnic minority, the AG is 42 percent. In 2016, the African-American percentage of the Fellowship topped 10 percent for the first time. Over 25% of our clergy are women.

3. Young
Reaching a new generation --54 % of the Fellowship is under 35 years of age, as over the last decade, its millennial population has grown by 11%.

4. Global
The World Assemblies of God Fellowship encompasses 68.5 million adherents in 367,287 churches served by 392,018 ministers and meeting in 256 countries, territories or provinces.

5. Evangelistic
Every 37 seconds, a person comes to Christ through an AG church or ministry somewhere in the world. Every 95 minutes, a new AG church is planted somewhere in the world.
Pray with us for the global advance of the gospel. Pray for workers for the Harvest ...Teen Challenge Centers in 120 countries need staff and we currently have invitations to start Teen Challenge in over 32 new nations. They are crying out for help. They need the power of God to meet a pressing social need... but we know it has a SPIRITUAL ROOT.
MATTHEW 9: 37 Then He said to His disciples,
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
