Dear friends,

Our Jewish Home residents have not let the weather get in the way of enjoying summer activities.  At Jewish Home Assisted Living, we had a number of outings including a delicious trip for some ice cream treats!  A group of residents also went to see the film “Three Identical Strangers.”  This documentary tells the incredible story of three identical infants who were separated at birth and then, miraculously, found one another and unearthed the story of what had really transpired at the time of their birth. When Lauren Levant and I had our monthly luncheon with residents this week, they could not stop talking about this remarkable film. Other Assisted Living highlights this week included Estere Tzabar performing in our summer concert series.  Residents also enjoyed a root beer float event on the patio to help beat the heat.

The Jewish Home at Rocklegh began their week with an “afternoon of music” featuring musician Mark Wright. Mark is always a favorite and residents, families and staff were singing and clapping along. On Monday, we enjoyed another day of “Camp Color Wars.” We set up stations for our “mini Olympics” that included target practice, ring toss, ball games and more. Residents, staff and volunteers all had a great time! On Wednesday, the Recreation staff started a wonderful new program. Called “Community Choice,” we are implementing this on two of our long term care units. At the conclusion of morning programming, residents are asked what they would like to do in the afternoon. Residents loved having these options and being able to suggest ideas and families were delighted with this innovation as well.

In the Gallen Center, we had another great week. We had a number of activities as a part of our specialized Parkinson’s program including boxing and Tai Chi. Everyone also enjoyed chair Zumba and moving to the music. We also had great “club” meetings in the Gallen Center, including Women’s Club on Wednesday, Men’s Club on Thursday and the ever-popular Gallen Comedy Club on Thursday afternoon.

We concluded the week with music featuring Frank Mottola and Spiritual Reflections with Rabbi Feld.

All the best,
