Water Baptism

We are just back from a great “TC family reunion” that included directors, staff, students, interns, GenNext leaders and alumni from Pacific Northwest Adult and Teen Challenge. We were so blessed to see not only hundreds of students and staff, but graduates from across five states. What wonderful ministry at Spiritual Emphasis, staff training and Alumni Breakout sessions.

So grateful for the leadership of Chris and Lindy Hodges, Russ Tappero, the servant hearts of Breanne, Dawson, the 4 worship teams we worked with, and so many others. There were 375 people (from 11 centers in five states) in attendance at the Spiritual Emphasis, held near Spokane, WA. Dr. Jacobus Nomdoe, the Global Teen Challenge Africa Regional Director and his wife Erica ministered powerfully. Cathy and I were privileged to minister and lead that enthusiastic crowd in worship of the One who set us all free!

Pacific Northwest Spiritual Emphasis

God spoke clearly through the ministry of the Word, the testimonies of alumni and the wonderful graduation service on Sunday night. Evenings were capped with powerful messages from Brother Jacobus. Dr Nomdoe declared, “As our sons and daughters are dying, and the culture is failing, there is no longer time for “business as usual.”

Chris Hodges summed it up so well. “We can longer do business as usual, we must prepare for business 'unusual!'” God touched hearts! The staff and students responded all weekend long to the moving of the Holy Spirit.

We are excited to see what God is going to do with a people whose hearts are set on Him, the One whose ways are higher than ours and whose resources are limitless! As we all headed back home from the Spiritual Emphasis, we were feeling the burden to rethink normals, rethink possible, and reach for the promise of God. Lord, have your way as they (and we) obey your mandate to Put Hope Within Reach of Every Addict. #spiritualemphasis2018.

One of the real highlights of our visit to Pacific Northwest Adult and Teen Challenge was the graduation ceremony. What a joy to celebrate with staff, students and alumni (from 11 centers) over the 45 graduates from 5 states: Oregon, Washington State, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska. The students have not only completed the Teen Challenge program but many have also finished 3 to 6 months of aftercare, successfully applying the principles they learned at TC .

Space does not permit us to share all of the wonderful graduation pictures from that night. 45 amazing miracles, lives changed, families restored. We felt compelled to share a photo of some amazing young folks that made the commitment to go, not only through the Teen Challenge program, but committed to excellence in ministry by completing their outstanding TC Ministry Institute.

Water Baptism
It was a thrill to watch nearly 40 follow the Lord in believers baptism. As each came out of the water, there was a joyful shout,"New life!"
Rise to Newness of Life!

As many of you know, I am headed for a sensitive nation right now. We cannot give you details, but please pray- not for safety, but for boldness, wisdom and miracles.

A New Generation

I asked the question, "What would you be willing to surrender to God to launch a ministry that would change the world?

In addition to the Spiritual Emphasis, for staff and students, it was a delight to minister in 3 separate sessions to the interns, Center Directors, and GenNext leaders on the history and DNA of Teen Challenge and evangelism. Their hunger, spiritual insight, and vision were a fresh “shot in the arm” for Cathy and me. It is exciting to see the future of this ministry in God’s hands as He pours His Holy Spirit into young leaders like these.

An intern looks at a Feb 1958 edition of LIFE Magazine that David Wilkerson read. As each held that magazine and looked at it, I reminded them that vision sees things that no one else can see. When all the world saw that trial as a mandate to try those boys as adults and execute them, David Wilkerson saw an opportunity to bring hope to the hopeless. And he acted on what God showed him. "LIFE magazine moments" are before us every day. Let's pray that God gives us vision to see those opportunities.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8

The devil wants us to feed on bad news. God wants to bring us good news. You get to choose what you let in. I have noticed that Hope lives right next to the hurt in the heart of Teen Challenge students. If you sow to the hurt, you can drown out the promise of Hope. We need to stop living focused on what has happened to us and embrace the reality of what Jesus has already done for us.

We live in a society addicted to "news." What we get is mostly entertainment masquerading as news, designed mostly to keep you watching, not to actually encourage or share truth.

In our hearts, Hope lives right next to the hurt!

It is packaged to offer views that manipulate your thinking and believing and serve an unspoken agenda. One glaring evidence is that they leave God out. God is at work around the world, but when do you ever see a report on the good things God is doing? They report on the hopeless dilemma of a burgeoning opioid epidemic with 65,000 death's last year and failed drug programs, but neglect to report on the successes we see every day at TC and the 60 year track record of miracles
They focus on bad news and the sensational to keep our attention, so they can sell products and turn a profit. Does it build your faith? What is the result of feeding on all this bad news? I meet people who spend hours daily watching the "news," yet find no time to read the Bible or teaching that will build faith and improve their life. In a "victim" society, the bad news drowns out the good news that in ALL THINGS, God is working for our good. We are victors, not victims.

We are in a fight of faith. Satan is out to diminish and steal our faith. Circumstances constantly conspire to distract us from God’s promise, dampen our enthusiasm, and steal our joy.

The apostle Paul reminds us that it will get so bad that “if" there is any virtue, "if" there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things. That is a big "IF. Bern translation, "Hey Baby, you are gonna have to look for the good. Find it in my Word!" You're not gonna find it on TV. We have the choice where we will put our focus -- God’s promise or circumstances. Never forget, what God wants to do IN US is far more important than what people do TO US.

1 TIMOTHY 6:12 NKJV 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

The PNWATC centers are actively involved in the global vision of Teen Challenge. Under the visionary leadership of Chris Hodges and Russ Tappero, they have been strategic allies with the ministry of Teen Challenge in Africa. Their partnership with Teen Challenge Uganda rescued a center when it appeared they were about to close. They are now one of the fastest-growing centers on the continent.

In addition to their work with emerging centers in Kampala and Jinja, they are now partnering with TC Uganda for a new facility in Gulu, in the north of Uganda. The solar-powered well they are completing in Gulu will impact the entire city. Now Hope has an address in Gulu.

Their visionary teaching at Africa Leadership Training Institutes have contributed to the growth across the Africa. They have promoted excellence in ways that cannot be measured as emerging programs are bringing the light of Jesus, to the dark continent.

2018 has been a year of miracles.

You could not be with us in the Syrian Refugee Camps of the Bekaa Valley, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa or the United Kingdom-but you were with us in prayer, partnership and giving.
Thank you for standing with us, praying for us and as the Lord leads, partnering with us through your gifts.

Again I say
unto you,
that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done
for them of
my Father which is in heaven.

1) VIRGINIA/CAROLINA: Hurricane Florence

While most of Florence has moved on from-Virginia and the Carolinas, her destructive force is still being felt. Entire communities are under water, and there are reports of harrowing rescues as flooding continues. As waters recede and roads reopen, many will return home to find they’ve lost everything. They need your prayers.

Please pray that God will comfort them in their suffering, give strength to first responders, utility workers, and volunteers, and draw many people to His Son, Jesus Christ.

2) SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS Pacific Northwest Teen Challenge

Please pray with us as students return to their centers. We were excited to minister in Washington State for Spiritual Emphasis with
Chris Hodges and the ministry of Pacific Northwest Teen Challenge. We truly appreciated your prayers. We were honored to minister to their Gen Next team, Interns and staff.
We were blessed to see the power of the Lord meet each one; breakthroughs realized, bondage broken, commitments made, and callings confirmed.

They have a team headed for Uganda TC- Gulu.

4) Phnom Penh, Cambodia

A request from a dear friend & partner in TC Cambodia

“I love how God trains us up for each season, even when we don’t know what the season will be.  God called me to Cambodia 2 years ago and said “go” so I did . I traveled back and forth for 2 years. I had no idea what was next .. but then in His perfect Voice He said “Teen Challenge Cambodia.” So I said “Yes”.  Next week I will be doing exactly what God has said.  I will be going to Teen Challenge Cambodia to be with the women and children. I am humbled and tear up at the amazing God that we serve . Please pray for this trip and may every word that is spoken be His.

5) Great Britain: City Outreach

A few weeks ago, we were blessed to be with Debbie Swandel and her team from City Outreach in Liverpool. *THIS SUNDAY* Teen Challenge UK City Outreach will be testifying and ministering in a major outreach in Liverpool. Pray that anyone struggling in addiction will find hope in Christ Jesus. ~
We are blessed to know that, even as we move on to new missions, the work continues long after we are gone. Your prayers are still bearing fruit--let us continue to pray.

The Mission SOS gear did not make it out of Rwanda. At the border, as the truck awaited clearance, a vehicle lost its brakes crashing into our truck and eight other vehicles.
There was a huge explosion, a blazing inferno and the containers, the entire stage, lighting, and sound equipment were consumed. All of the festival gear valued at approximately US$ 1.5 million has been lost and the system must be reconfigured in time for the June outreach in Tanzania. A truck fire will not stop momentum, but they need your prayers and as the Lord leads -- financial help..
