Did you miss last Sunday's Message?  Hear it here! (Scroll to the bottom of the page.)
Sunday’s speaker is John Brachna.  A member of Brecksville UMC for almost 10 years, John has been a trained local church lay servant for 1 year, and a certified lay servant for 7 years.  For 3 years, he served on the district's Lay Servant Committee where he taught two lay servant classes.  As a certified lay servant, John has the opportunity to present the message at any UMC in our district.  He leads the non-denominational religious service about four times annually at Chippewa Place,  the independent living community designed for seniors.  He last delivered the sermon at Brecksville UMC in July 2012.  John and his lovely bride Carole, 12-year-old daughter Anastasia and 11-year-old son Zachary live in Sagamore Hills.
Announcement from Staff Parish Relations
At the May 23rd Staff Parish Committee meeting, Pastor Clark’s request for a sabbatical from June 26 through July 23 was approved.  He will use this time to rest and refresh his spirit. During his absence, very talented members of our congregation will lead worship.

  • July 16: John Brachna, Certified Lay Servant
  • July 23: Rev. Kathy Dickriede

We look forward to seeing you in church and welcoming

Pastor Clark's return on July 24.

Vacation Bible School Begins Monday

There are 101 kids registered for Hero Central,  7 registered for Stick to the Script  (our middle school VBS) and about 35 volunteers making the week possible.  Many of the families registered are members of our community, but not our church family.  The church will be full of life, learning and laughter from 9 am to noon, Monday through Friday.  Please keep Vacation Bible School in your prayers this week!

VBS Kids on a Mission:  Mission and Outreach are hallmarks of our faith and something we aim for everyday at Brecksville UMC.  For this year’s VBS mission project, families will be thinking about heroes in our world.  Who are the every day heroes, the people that quietly go about their work to make our lives safer and better?  Each VBS family is being asked to talk about the way these people are true heroes—and then write a letter thanking them for what they do and holding these heroes in prayer throughout this week.  As the letters are written, the families will let Jenny know who they wrote to, and she'll post that on the “Everyday Heroes” bulletin board on the first floor.  They will also be collecting money throughout the week that will be donated to the super heroes at Ronald McDonald House Cleveland.  That's super!
Pop Up Worship, Wednesday, July 19.
Want to do something different on Wednesday evenings this summer? Our band will help lead a relaxed worship service at different locations each week alongside teams staying at Nehemiah Mission. Pictures (and video) of the July 5 Pop Up Worship are posted on the Nehemiah Mission Facebook Page.  Call the office or watch our social media posts for next week’s location!
Are you playing July BUMC Bingo?
Cards are included in the July issue of The Good Word, online, and on the table by the church office.  Complete 5 in a row and bring your card to the office for a sweet treat!  Here are some items you can check off this week:
  • Attend the 10 o'clock Worship Service on Sunday.
  • Introduce yourself to someone you don't know at church.
  • Volunteer to serve as an usher one Sunday this summer.
Do you remember visiting this church for the first time?  Did someone deliver a welcome gift of bread to your home?  This wonderful tradition of Brecksville United Methodist Church stretches back 20 years or more.  For several years, Ruby Ludwig and Chuck & Becky Gezze have served this ministry with love.  Now we’re looking for a new team of volunteers to step forward.  Are you feeling the call?  Call the office:  440-526-8938.
Detergent Drive. Our focus for this month’s  collection for Brookside Food Center is detergent—both dish and laundry.  These items cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits and are among the most needed items at the Center. Let’s help our brothers and sisters in Cleveland stay clean and healthy. If you're moved to help, bring your donations to the first floor donation bin. Time's running out! Our volunteers will empty the bin Thursday, July 20!
Summer Run Series.  Let's get moving!  Noel (Fenton) Zickefoose leads FREE training groups Tuesday evenings at 6:00 pm and  Saturday mornings at 8:30 am. Meet at Station Road trailhead (Brecksville Train Station parking lot.) Learn more...
Recycle Paper. Fight Hunger!   Do you know that paper recycled from our bins earns money for our hunger ministry?  That's right!  For every ton of paper we recycle, we earn cash to help feed our hungry neighbors.  Tell your friends! Remember,  "If it's paper, bring it to the bin!"
Save the Date for Pictorial Directory Time!
This summer, we're compiling a new pictorial directory.  Sign up for a complimentary Professional Portrait Session to receive a free 8 x 10 portrait and a printed directory.  We're partnering with Lifetouch photography whose professional photographers create memories to last a lifetime.  Families are welcome to bring meaningful items, like instruments, sports equipment and even pets!  Portrait packages will be available for purchase, and we have  20% discount.  Bring a donation for Brookside Food Center and receive an additional 5% off!  This is an open photography session.  Family and friends are welcome to sign up and will also receive a free 8 x 10 photograph!  Sign up early to ensure your spot!

August 12, 10 am to 5pm
Fill the Truck!  It’s time to start gathering your cloth items, small kids’ toys and games, books, CDs, DVDs, kitchenware, wall hangings, knickknacks  and jewelry to help fill the truck on August 26 & 27.  A donation area will be set up in Fellowship Hall after Vacation Bible SchoolCollect at home now to donate starting July 30.  The United Methodist Women are partnering with Easter Seals to give back to the community while helping children and adults with disabilities.  You can free up some closet space and do good at the same time!
