Upcoming Church Events and Announcements Lost and Found Our Lost and Found is filling up! If you have misplaced items at church, please visit the front office on Sunday after the 9:30 service or during our office hours. Any items that have not been picked up by Sunday, April 5, will be donated to the Soup Kitchen for those in need.
In addition, a parishioner is looking for his dark-gray London Fog dress wool overcoat (with a pair of black gloves and tinted sunglasses in the pocket). If you picked this coat up by accident on Sunday, Feb. 16, please return it to the front office. Call for donations: St. John's needs a new bulletin-folding machine! Have you noticed that lately the bulletins are sometimes crooked, crumpled, or just in a bit of disarray? We have a few dedicated volunteers that spend some of their own time preparing these bulletins. They sort, fold, and stuff these publications every week with a bit of help from a folding machine that we lovingly call "Martin." Well, it seems that Martin is on his last leg (hence all of the crooked disarray), and St. John's is tasked with replacing Martin, but we cannot do it alone... financially. Would you be willing to help share the burden of cost with us? Save the Date: Yoga in the Church Join Pastor Susan and yoga teacher Sirena Dudgeon for Yoga in the Church on April 22 and 29 for vinyasa flow and teachings from the Yoga Sutras and Christian theology.
In April, the topic will be "Standing on Holy Ground: Yoga and Christianity Converse about the Divine in Creation." Join us as we stand on holy ground and explore what yogic philosophy and Christian theology and scripture have to say about the presence of the Divine in the world around us. Ancient texts and voices from both Hindu and Christian traditions converse with modern disciplines like quantum physics to show us where we might find and appreciate God, and what it means to steward Creation. Teaching and guided meditations will be interspersed with Vinyasa flow.
The session will be offered twice: on April 22 (Earth Day) and April 29 from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost of the class is $10. Pre-registration is required by emailing Sirena at dudgeon.sirena@gmail.com or call the St. John's office at 303-442-5246.
Be sure to join our new Facebook group: "Come Union: Yoga in the Church." Vernal Equinox Service at St. Brigit Episcopal Church ![]() Come celebrate the return of spring in all its glorious unpredictability at St. Brigit Episcopal Church on Friday, March 20, at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
Just as spring promises growth and change, so does life. Change requires growth. Growth can be painful, and safe places are needed in order to be refreshed for the journey ahead. St. Brigit invites you to such a place, where you can indulge in a time of spiritual sanctuary and renewal in celebration of the Vernal Equinox.
St. Brigit’s Vernal Equinox celebration is a part of its Áit Caol series. Áit Caol (pronounced atch qweel) is Gaelic for “A Thin Place.” These quarterly services are created to offer guests an experience of God through a unique liturgy, which combines ancient tradition with contemporary language. They include specially designed and engaging meditation areas, which bring scripture to life, and ethereal music with a Celtic sound.
Ancient people marked this day with thanksgiving for the return of light and warmth. Spring promised rebirth and hope. In the Christian Church, the Vernal Equinox is significant in that it is used in determining the date of Easter, the first Sunday following the first full moon after the equinox.
Older children are welcome at the Vernal Equinox celebration. Childcare will be provided for children under age six. Guests are invited to come early to walk St. Brigit’s outdoor labyrinth, weather permitting.
St. Brigit Episcopal Church is located at 110 Johnson Street in Frederick, about 20 miles east of St. John’s on Highway 52. Visit www.stbrigit.org or www.facebook.com/StBrigit for more information. You also may contact C.J. Joplin-Jack at jplnjck@icloud.com if you are interested in carpooling to the event.
