“Where Do I See Us In 2021“
2020…was a year like no other due to the nationwide pandemic known as the Covid-19. Our industry has been devastated by this crisis. We hope this crisis will dissipate by year end. We will stay positive and move into 2021 with these goals in mind.
In 2021 we want to instill confidence by showing that as an industry, we will try to get back to some kind of normalcy. As always, the health and safety of our guests and visitors is and will always be our priority going into 2021.
I will continue to promote, market, and maintain a positive image for Oak Grove, Kentucky as a travel destination. To continue to motivate other cities and communities to participate in and support tourism and its activities.
With the Oak Grove Racing • Gaming • Hotel now opened, we will partner and work alongside Churchill on any events that will benefit tourism. I will make sure Oak Grove will shine on all tourism related events, festivals, and attractions by encouraging and working with Bus/Motor coach companies, and conventions to come to our City. This will be one of my many focuses for the new year when we are able to get back to normal.
We were not able to put on our 13th annual Spring into Summer Salutes Fort Campbell Festival in 2020 however, we are in the beginning stages of planning the 2021 13th annual (take two) Spring into Summer Salutes Fort Campbell scheduled for May 29th & 30th! Every year this festival gains more and more attention and has grown exponentially since its first year. It has proven to be one of our biggest tourism events, as we have seen the numbers for hotel stays increase during that weekend.
2021 will also hold the 12th Annual (take two) Butterfly Festival. We will continue to host this free festival and strive to make it better and more entertaining every year. We are very proud of the annual Butterfly Festival. It has come a long way, gained much more popularity than we ever could have hoped for, and continues to be a great success. This festival is particularly popular with families, who enjoy the free family activities and bug experts, who will travel to Oak Grove for the live release of over 1600 butterflies and the educational insect booths. It will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 11:00 until 4:00 at the Oak Grove War Memorial Walking Trail.
I will continue to submit our award-winning festivals for State, Regional, and International awards. Spring into Summer Salutes Ft. Campbell and the Butterfly Festival won several and we will strive to continue not only to win, but to win at a higher level. We are also submitting for more categories in hopes that the recognition will draw even larger crowds from all over the country and the International world!
In addition to our signature festivals, once again, we will attempt to have a “Music Under the Stars” series. This will be a new summer series event; it will be held at the Viceroy Amphitheater in Oak Grove starting in June running once a month, the first Friday of the month. This is more of a community program rather than a tourism program but in the words of Roger Brooks, CEO of Roger Brooks International “Tourism showcases your community as a very desirable place to not only visit, but in which to live and work.”
In September, we will have a great opportunity to partner with Clarksville CVB bringing a very popular event to Oak Grove that will benefit both cities. We are so fortunate to have been given an opportunity to work with another State on a project that will be very patriotic and exciting. The possibilities are endless, more information to follow.
I will continue to be a part of the Southern Kentucky Film Commission and showcase our great locations here in the City of Oak Grove to attract filmmakers. My goal in that aspect is to have several scouts in the area once the States open for business. We had several film makers interested in coming to Kentucky before Covid-19 hit, it is my hope to woo them back.
I will continue to work and be a part of Oak Grove-Christian County Economic Development Committee and Military Affairs.
I will continue advocating for our military soldiers and their families at Fort Campbell by participating in the yearly Citizens for Fort Campbell Trip. I am fully open to all networking opportunities, especially those involving Ft. Campbell. Valor Hall Conference & Event Center will also hold two Murder Mystery Dinner Shows in 2021. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, the Oak Grove Tourism & Valor Hall Conference & Event Center offices will be open by appointments only. No walk ins are allowed at this time. Events are limited to 25 people or less until December 13th 2020 unless otherwise indicated. For Valor Hall Conference & Event Center please call 270-640-7144 to schedule an appointment or get in touch with office staff. For Oak Grove Tourism call 270-439-5675. Both offices will be closed December 24-27th for the Holidays.

December 1st-12th: Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel: Give a Kid a Christmas Toy Drive
- Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel is hosting a toy drive. Donate a new, unwrapped toy and receive $10 in Freeplay. Toys can be accepted 9am-9pm everyday until December 12th. Toys will then be given to help support the USO, YalPaks and Oak Grove Community Cares Holiday Toy Drive efforts to help those in need.
December 3rd: Fill The Cruiser
- Oak Grove Community Center partnered with Cash Express this year for the Fill The Police Cruiser Toy Drive. The drive will be from 10am to 5pm. The drive will be taking place in two different locations: The Police Cruiser will be located at Cash Express on Fort Campbell Blvd and the flatbed truck will be located at the Oak Grove Community Center. All toys/donations will be used to help support families with holiday toys in the Oak Grove Community during their Christmas Shopping Event. December 4th: Oak Grove Community Center's Annual Tree Lighting
- This year's tree lighting ceremony will be on December 4th 2020 at 6pm at the Oak Grove Community Center located at 1705 Thompsonville Ln in Oak Grove. Masks are required and all CDC Covid-19 guidelines will be followed.
December 12-13: Freedom Military Surplus & Survival's Santa's Coming to Town
- Between 10am-2pm the public can come take pictures with Santa in his sled and receive a free card at Freedom Military Surplus & Survival in Oak Grove. There will be a door prize drawing for a 20ft aluminum flagpole with a USA flag 4x6 and a 3x5 Pow/Mia flag. Sunday there will be a giveaway for a Voodoo Tactical Vest for their 12 days of Christmas promotion.
December 17th: Christmas Shopping

This year, instead of having a shopping center, the event will be a drive-thru with families driving up to a volunteer and providing a Christmas wish list with the child’s name, age and gender. A masked up and gloved employee will then retrieve a gift from the list and provide it to the family, free of charge. Time TBD. December 19th: Holiday Pop-Up Shop & Food Drive
- Local vendors are hosting a Holiday Pop-Up Shop and Food Drive at Valor Hall Conference & Event center from 10am-4:30pm. They are expecting over 60 vendors and food trucks. Free to the Public. Checkout out adoptable pets, get your Christmas shopping done and enjoy some great food from local food trucks. Everyone is encouraged to bring canned goods, non-perishables, blankets, and gently loved clothes. This is a non-profit event, all proceeds and donations will benefit local food banks and shelters. Masks must be worn and all CDC Covid-19 guidelines will be followed.
