Dear Family of Faith:

The ongoing disaster in Texas and Louisiana caused by the horrific storm this past week is prompting many Southern Baptist Churches in our area to take action.  Our Director of Missions, Brian Nall, is asking churches in our area to begin gathering supplies for hard hit families in Texas and Louisiana.  Supplies most needed at this time, according to Brian, are:

#1 - baby supplies (diapers, wipes, baby blankets, etc.)

#2 - children’s school supplies (similar to what we provide for our partnership schools)

#3 - toiletries for adults and youth (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, shampoo, etc.)

(Please, no food of any kind at this time – only the items listed above.)

This Sunday morning our Disaster Relief trailer will be parked behind the back parking lot in the area that adjoins the tutoring house.  Members of our Disaster Relief Team will be on hand to receive these items from you as you arrive for Sunday school.  Please do what you can.  In the days ahead as more information comes to us we will let you know.  I am pretty sure that once the rain stops there will be a request for teams to go to those hard hit areas and provide additional relief.  We will keep you posted.

In light of that pressing need over there, we also have needs here . . .

Hurricane season is still upon us.  September and even into the month of October and beyond, storms can form quickly out there in the Gulf.  (Remember Hurricane Ivan.)  As most of you know, plans are underway to begin the roofing project on our two-story building.  The rain this past week has prevented our workers from getting started.  Hopefully, the weather will dry up in the days ahead in order to make our facilities waterproof.  This leads me to another important request.

Before I mention the request, allow me to once again thank each of you for your generous giving this past month to our church-wide Great Day of Giving.  The funds that were given that day towards the loan for our needed repair work were significant.  We appreciate your generosity more than words can say.  With that said, there is the ongoing challenge we have to pay off this loan over the next year.

Here is the request . . .

Would you please consider a monthly pledge, above your regular tithes and offerings, to help pay off this loan for the repair work?  Whatever you could do would be greatly appreciated.  Remember, it’s not the amount that is given, but the sacrifice, that counts. Make this a matter of prayer over the next few weeks.

Soon you will be receiving a letter in the mail which will contain a pledge card.  On this card you can indicate the amount of the pledge that you are willing to commit each month towards this project.  If in agreement you may mail this card back to the church or simply bring it with you on a Sunday morning and drop it in the offering plate.  More information on this matter will be coming in the weeks ahead.  Thanks again for your giving to the Lord’s work.

With great love and appreciation,

Pastor Ron Lentine
