Focus Scripture Psalm 62: 5-12
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; 9 Surely the lowborn are but a breath, 11 One thing God has spoken,
Devotion I have always loved to read the various Psalms in the Old Testament. Some of them are easy to imagine being sung with great praise to God, like this one. Psalm 62 reminds us that we can find rest, hope, salvation, and refuge in our Lord. We humans seem to often need to be reminded of those facts. We also have to be reminded we have no power, only God does.
My husband put a new bird feeder in our front yard the other day. At first, we saw no birds and it seemed no activity. It took a few days, but soon birds of all kinds appeared in our yard. They were all enjoying the food provided and we enjoyed watching them.
Perhaps we are like those birds. We have forgotten the words in the Psalms. We have to see anew what God has provided to us. Sometimes it takes us a little long to accept the provisions offered. The birds had to see and accept what was given. Only by accepting could they be filled and sing with joy. When we accept God’s unfailing love we, like the Psalmist, can be filled and sing with joy!
Prayer God of hope and salvation may we accept what you have given. May we also share the good news with others. Thank you for your unfailing love. Amen!
