Above Average Summer Water Supply Predicted

Cool, wet weather from mid-February through mid-April turned a so-so water supply into one decidedly above average. How will this affect management of Island Park Reservoir this summer?

See Rob’s most recent blog for the answer!

What You Might Have Missed - Special Highlight

Henry’s Fork Rainbow Trout migrating to spawn in the Buffalo River have to pass through the fish ladder at the Buffalo River hydroelectric facility to access upstream spawning habitat. At the end of the fish ladder we, HFF, operate a fish trap from early February through the middle of June to capture and collect data on these migrating Rainbow Trout.

From February 16 through April 29, 81 spawning sized Rainbow Trout (>12 inches) have used the fish ladder to access the Buffalo River and the largest one was recorded at 22.2 inches! In addition, 233 juvenile Rainbow Trout and 62 Brook Trout have been caught in the trap and released upstream. These numbers are tracking well with the long-term average and a summary blog will be written in June at the end of spawning season.

Thank You for Making Idaho Gives A Success!

We would like to offer a big thank you to our supportive members for their generous donations on Idaho's day of giving.

We raised over $37,000!

Your Idaho Gives gifts have been essential to equipping our scientific laboratory to bring several of our research and monitoring programs to the next level.  This support is what allows us to continue to conserve, protect, and restore the legendary wild trout of the Henry’s Fork.

It is because of you, our generous donors, that the wild trout of the Henry's Fork continue to thrive.

Thank you!
