Saturday, February 3rd | 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Volunteers are needed to help the Greater Boston Food Bank to inspect, sort, and box food to be sent to 600+ hunger relief agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, etc.). With volunteer efforts, the Food Bank can feed more than 87,000 hungry people per week. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes. This project can be physically tiring.

There are almost 517,000 hungry people in Eastern Massachusetts. It has been estimated that 40% of food in the United States is thrown away. With volunteer efforts, the Food Bank feeds more than 87,000 hungry people per week. The GBFB has over 650 food sources. One of their connections is with local grocers that donate food that might have been overproduced, incorrectly labeled or packaged, or is not selling well. They also accept donations from restaurants, universities, food drives, and individuals.

Assemble Grocery Bags at the American Red Cross
 Tuesday, February 6th | 8:15 AM -12:00 PM

Volunteers will prepare bags of groceries with fresh and frozen foods (may include meat and fish) as well as dry goods and cans to be distributed the next morning to clients. All volunteers are REQUIRED to wear sturdy shoes or sneakers. For safety reasons, no open-toed shoes or sandals will be allowed in the warehouse. During the cooler months, please bring warm clothing and a pair of gloves, as it can get cold in the warehouse while handling frozen food packages.

The American Red Cross works to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The Boston Food Pantry provides a week's worth of emergency food to 4,500 low-income clients per month.

Judge a Citywide Debate Tournament for High School Students
Saturday, February 10th | 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Volunteer judges listen to students, offer encouragement, share advice for the next round, and tell the tournament organizers who won.

With a student to judge ratio of only 4:1, this is a great opportunity to get some hands-on experience working directly with some amazing students.
No debate experience is necessary to be an effective judge.

Volunteers are trained at the start of each tournament and students are expected to adapt their arguments to their judges, whether they’ve debated for a decade or never seen a debate in their lives.
