What to Expect During Lent 2021

In the season of Lent, we’re reminded that, again and again, suffering and brokenness find us. We doubt again, we lament again, we mess up again. Again and again, the story of Jesus on the cross repeats—every time lives are taken unjustly, every time the powerful choose corruption and violence, every time individuals forget how to love. With exacerbation we exclaim, “Again?! How long, O God?” And yet, in the midst of the motion blur chaos of our lives, God offers a sacred refrain: “I choose you, I love you, I will lead you to repair.” Again and again, God breaks the cycle and offers us a new way forward.

Lenten Devotional

This year’s devotional is full of incredible artwork and powerful poems...and it’s free! You can download an electronic version or pick up your Again and Again Devotionals in the church office. Contact Rev. Donna McKee by calling the church office or at dmckee@fumchurst.org if you would like a Devotional delivered to you.

Let Us Pray: A Drive-Thru Experience

Lent is a time when we can deepen our connections with God through prayer and worship.  During the month of March you are invited to come to the church campus and drive through a variety of self-directed prayer stations.  A guide with stops and prayer focus for each stop will be available on the church website beginning March 7.

FUMC Hurst’s Excel’LENT’ Adventure!

Join us for a geocaching meets treasure hunt adventure for church during Lent! You’ll go on an adventure again and again during Lent (but only once a week) and each time you will discover something new about yourself and about God. You’ll go to a special location (either in Tarrant County or your own home) each week that fits with the Lenten topic of the week. Once you arrive in the special location, you’ll find the designated item from your Lenten kit and follow the directions of what to do next. You won’t want to miss this Excel’LENT’ Adventure that takes you to see cool places and hidden treasures, all while connecting with God! FUMC Hurst’s Excel’LENT’ Adventure is for everyone (children, youth, and adults of all ages)! Have questions? Email Jennifer Acker.

  • Jennifer Acker and a team of volunteers are delivering kits to all of our families. If a kit hasn't been delivered to your porch, email Jennifer so we can make arrangements for delivery.

Don't need a kit? You can still participate in the adventures just by downloading the Excel'LENT' Adventure Guide (DOWNLOAD GUIDE).

The Excel’LENT Adventure kits have customized items for children and families and senior adults.

Lenten Art Night Experience - Spiritual Practice Workshop

The theme this Lent is focused partially on Art (as you’ll see in the devotional guide).  We have a free opportunity for you to create your own art through a guided experience with Artist/Spiritual Director, Wendi Bernau on Sunday, March 7th, 5-7 p.m. She says “you don’t need any artistic abilities to participate, you just need to be a human.” Join us as we reflect, pray, and create together during Lent. The process and experience of this event is much more important than the quality of art that you may create. Come connect with God in this powerful way with us. All ages are welcome to participate. Register now for the Zoom link.
